S. Ramanathan directed movie ‘Bombay to Goa‘ was released under the banner of Mehmood Productions on March 3rd, 1972. The movie is full of action, adventure and crime drama and the lead roles in the movie were played by Amitabh Bachchan, Aruna Irani, Shatrughan Sinha and Mehmood whereas the supporting roles were played by Anwar Ali, Nasir Hussain, Manmohan, Agha, Mukri, Sunder, Asit Sen, Raj Kishore, Keshto Mukherjee, Lalita Pawar, Darshan etc. The movie was produced by N.C. Sippy and Usman Ali whereas the songs of the movie were rendered by Asha Bhosle, Kishore Kumar and Lata Mangeshkar. The music of the movie was given by famous Rahul Dev Burman whereas the story was given by Usilai Somanathan. Rajendra Krishan has given the dialogues of the movie and it was an average movie at the box office.

The movie is based on the journey from Bombay to Goa in a bus. In the begining of the movie, Mala (Aruna Irani) is living a wealthy lifestyle with her parents in her palatial house. She is fond of acting and wants to be famous at any cost. Later her father named Atmaram (Nasir Hussain) and also her mother are stunned to see her photograph in a magazine. Their world turned upside down after seeing this. Therefore they decide to get her married with the son of Ramlal (Agha). But Mala is surprised to hear this and also opposes this marriage as she does not want to get married with someone whome she has not met before. At the same time she gets thrilled to know that Sharma (Shatrughan Sinha) and Verma (Manmohan), the two persons she trusted, had actually submitted her pictures to a magazine. Also they are now willing to sign her up for a Bollywood movie for which she agrees.

But her parents opposes her and she cannot understand their opposition. As a result she runs away from home with a large sum of money. Later she hands over this amount to them which causes greedbetween them. Then Sharma kills Verma and Mala witnesses this killing and is on the run for her life. She boards a bus from Bombay which bound for Goa. Later Sharma also overtakes her and has one of his armed men on the bus to kill her. Then comes Ravi Kumar (Amitabh Bachchan) who rescues her and also accompanies her throughout the journey. Mala starts to trust and subsequently fall in love with Ravikumar. Also the bus is a mixture from all over India, having different religions, cultures, and faiths, all thrown together for this journey. The bus conductor named Khanna (Mehmood) also is a funny guy who frequently makes laugh everyone.
