Hit songs of Hema Sardesai


One of the leading playback singers Hema Sardesai was born in Mumbai and have her family roots in Goa. She is best known for her Hindi songs which she has rendered in about sixty hindi movies. She is simply known as Hema in the bollywood industry. Apart from her playback singing, she has also released several successful Indipop albums and performed numerous live stage shows in almost all the states of India. Later her shows went on to international level. Apart from all the playback singers, she is the only Indian Singer to win the Grand Prix at the 16th International Pop Song Festival in Germany. Also she is the second female singer other than Lata Mangeshkar to perform at the celebrations for the 50th year of India’s Independence day. She started singing when she was at very young age and made her stage debut at the age of eight years at the Navratri Festival.

She is very famous between her teachers and friends and they call her Happy Go Lucky Girl. She has started her playback singing career in 1989 in the movie titled ‘Goonj’. She sang for the actress Juhi Chawla in that movie for the first time. Later she sang for many bollywood actresses such as Manisha Koirala, Urmila Matondkar, Karisma Kapoor, Raveena Tandon, Tabbu, Kajol, Preity Zinta, Sushmita Sen and Kareena Kapoor. Also she has worked with India’s most prominent music directors and composers, including Anu Malik, A.R Rahman, Rajesh Roshan, Nadeem-Shravan, Vishal Bhardwaj and Pritam. After winning the Grand Prix at the 16th International Pop Song Festival, she got the stage to perform at various countries like USA, UK, Germany, Belgium, Spain, Holland, Australia, New Zealand, Fiji Islands, West Indies, Thailand, Nepal and Indonesia. Her album ‘Piya Se Milke Aaye Nain’ in 1999 won her ‘The best selling album of the season’.

Looking at her bollywood career, she has sung so many melodious songs which all were hit. Songs like “Awaara Bhavaren” from ‘Sapnay‘ (1997), “Sona Sona Ye Na Hona” from ‘Soldier‘ (1998), “Sar Sar Hawa Hai” from ‘Daman’ (2001), “Kitne Kisse Hain” from ‘Astitva’ (2001), “Hai Re Hai Re” from ‘Khushi’ (2003), “Sun Suniyo” from ‘Musafir’ (2004) etc shot her to the fame. Apart from this she has also sang duets with superstars Amitabh Bachchan in Baghban, Naseeruddin Shah in Asambhav, Govinda in Hum Do Hamare Do and Shahrukh Khan in Josh. She is a playback singer with a difference. She has won Gomant Tejaswini Award for her outstanding achievements in the music field in 2006.
