Bollywood hot babe, Rekha, even at the age of 58 years is one of the most prominent Hindi Cinema actress who has played many strong characters in several bollywood movies. She was born as Bhanurekha Ganesan on October 10, 1954 at Madras in Tamil Nadu, India. Her parents were also involved in acting as her father Gemini Ganesan was a renowned Tamil actor and her mother Pushpavalli was a Telugu actress but they were not married. Her father did not acknowledge his paternity during her childhood. Rekha has also got in some unsuccessful relationships including the most controvertial relationship with Amitabh Bachchan. She have been working in Hindi Cinema for over four decades and has been featured as a sex symbol in the Indian media. She is popularly known for her versatility as an actress who always willing to play female-oriented characters. Rekha has acted in over 180 films.
She has achieved commercial success in both Indian mainstream and art cinema which is known as parallel cinema in India. She started her acting career in 1969 with the movie ‘Do Shikari’ which was the rename of ‘Anjana Safar’. She has face many problems as her naturally spoken language was Tamil and she had to learn Hindi language to deliver the dialogues in the Hindi movies. The movie ‘Sawan Bhadon‘ which was released in 1970 became a blockbuster hit which made Rekha a star overnight. Several of her movies like Kahani Kismat Ki, Raampur Ka Lakshman, Pran Jaaye Par Vachan Na Jaaye, Do Anjaane, Muqaddar Ka Sikandar, Umrao Jaan and many more became hit but she was shot to fame from the movie Do Anjane in which she co-starred with Amitabh Bachchan. She once again shot to fame by playing a rape victim in the movie Ghar opposite Vinod Mehra in 1978.
She has also received her first nomination for Best Actress at the Filmfare Awards for the movie Ghar. Her another hit movie was in the same year titled Muqaddar Ka Sikandar in which she co-starred once again with Amitabh Bachchan. The movie proved to be the biggest hit of the year. She won National Film Award for Best Actress for her performance in the movie Umrao Jaan in which she played as Amiran who is kidnapped and sold in a brothel, and follows her life story there as Umrao. She almost lost her stardom in the 1990s era due to her willing of playing the leading roles, at the same time when heroines Madhuri Dixit and Raveena Tandon rose to fame. Later she did films like Kamasutra : A Tale Of Love and Khiladiyon Ka Khiladi in 1996. She made a superb comeback in year 2003 in sci-fi movie Koi Mil Gaya where she played as mother of Hrithik Roshan. Rekha currently lives along with her secretary Farzana in her Bandra home in Mumbai.
