Hit songs of Sunil Dutt


One of the greatest actors in Hindi Cinema named Sunil Dutt was born on June 6th, 1928 at the village of Khurd in the Jhelum District of Punjab, British India. Now that part is in Pakistan since 1947. He is considered one of the legendary actors in the bollywood. His real name is Balraj Dutt and he was a Mohyal Brahmin by caste. After the partition, his family moved to India where they settled in a small village on the bank of river Yamuna called Mandoli which is in Yamunanagar district of Haryana. He moved to Bombay to fulfill his dreams where he joined ‘Jai Hind College’ as an undergraduate and also took up a job. He has a brother named Som Dutt. He married to actress Nargis on March 11th, 1958 and later became father of three children. He has two daughters, Namrata Dutt Kumar who is married to Kumar Gaurav and Priya Dutt and a son named Sanjay Dutt who is also a successful bollywood superstar.

Sunil started his career as an announcer in the Hindi Service of Radio Ceylon. There he became hugely popular announcer. Later he entered in the cinema world in 1955 with the movie ‘Railway Platform’ in which his appearance was noticed. Later after two years, 1957 he starred in blockbuster movie, ‘Mother India‘ which shot him to fame. He acted as a short-tempered, angry son of Nargis with whome he married later in real life. His career did not stop here as he continued to give superhit movie such as Sadhna (1958), Sujata (1959), Mujhe Jeene Do (1963), Khandaan (1965) and Padosan (1967). He was one of the major stars of bollywood in the late 1950s and 1960s. He created a record of sorts by directing and starring in the unique film Yaadein (1964) in which he was the only actor in the cast. His movie ‘Padosan’ was proved to be major success at the box office due to his comedy character of Bhola.

Apart from his acting, he stepped in the field of production in 1968 where he produced the movie ‘Man Ka Meet’. He introduced his brother Som Dutt who was unsuccessful in films. Once again he produced, directed and starred the movie ‘Reshma Aur Shera’ in 1971 which proved to be huge failure at the box office. But he was a real fighter and bounced back in ‘Pran Jaye Par Vachan Na Jaye’ in 1974 and later Nagin (1976), Jaani Dushman (1979) and Shaan (1980). Not only this he also acted in some Punjabi religious movies such as Man Jeete Jag Jeet (1973), Dukh Bhanjan Tera Naam (1974) and Sat Sri Akal (1977). He has won the Filmfare Best Actor Award for Mujhe Jeene Do in 1963 and Khandaan in 1965. He was also awarded Filmfare Lifetime Achievement Award in 1995. He last appeared in Munna Bhai M.B.B.S in 2003 in which he played the role of Sanjay Dutt’s father. He died of a heart attack at his residence in Bandra, Mumbai on May 25th, 2005.
