Radhu Karmakar directed movie ‘Jis Desh Men Ganga Behti Hai‘ was released under the banner of R.K. Films Ltd in 1960. The movie is full of romantic and crime drama and the lead roles were played by Raj Kapoor, Padmini and Pran whereas the supporting roles were played Chanchal, Lalita Pawar, Raj Mehra, Ramayan Tiwari, Nana Palsikar, S.B. Nayampalli, Sulochana Chatterjee, Vishwa Mehra, Mohamad Ali, Ratan Gaurang, Master Amar etc. The movie was produced by Raj Kapoor whereas the songs of the movie were rendered by Asha Bhosle, Manna Dey, Geeta Dutt, Mahendra Kapoor, Minoo Katrak, Lata Mangeshkar and Mukesh. The lyrics of the movie were written by famous lyricist named Shailendra and Hasrat Jaipuri. The music of the movie was given by famous Shankar-Jaikishan whereas the story, screenplay and dialogues were given by Arjun Dev Rashk.

The movie begins with an orphan named Raju (Raj Kapoor) who is a honest man. He lives a poor lifestyle and also has nothing to do for his earnings. Therefore he starts singing on the streets and earns to stay alive. Later one day when he goes to his work, he comes across an injured person who is seeking somene’s help. Therefore he quickly goes to him to give him some assistance. But unfortunately, before he undersands everything, he gets abducted and held by a band of bandits. There is a misunderstanding to the bandits that he is an undercover Police Officer. The person for which he has gone to help is none other than the head of the bandits. He is generally called as Sardar by his gang members. Later the Sardar treats him like a honored guest. Also he has a daughter named Kammo (Padmini) who is young and beautiful.

Later Raju comes across Kammo and eventually falls in love with her. Also Kammo has fallen in love with him. Later she tries to convince Raju that they are socialists and are just making sure that wealth is equally distributed. Later Raju is asked to accompany the group to a marriage feast where he witnesses the brutal killing of a child and the wedded couple. Raju gets frightened after seeing this and later decides to go to the police. Then the Police also decide to confront and kill those bandits. Also Raju is unable to see their deaths and therefore goes to them to inform them. But he is shocked to see that a militant bandit named Raka (Pran) kills the Sardar for his position in the group. He also has decided to forcibly wed Kammo. Now its upto him what he has to do.
