One of the most famous and prominent Bollywood actress, Konkona Sen Sharma was born on December 3rd, 1979 at New Delhi. She was born to the family of Mukul Sharma and Aparna Sen. Her father is a science writer and journalist whereas her mother is a former but famous actress and is also a filmmaker. She appears primarily in Indian arthouse and independent films from where she has gained respect. She has an older sister named Kamalini Chatterjee and her maternal grandfather, Chidananda Dasgupta, is a film critic, scholar, professor, writer and one of the co-founders of the Calcutta Film Society. She has attended Modern High School for Girls in Calcutta and the Calcutta International School. Later she completed her graduation in English from St. Stephen’s College in Delhi which she received in 2001.

She started her acting career as a child artist in the year 1983 in the movie ‘Indira’. Later she appeared in ‘Picnic’ and ‘Amodini’ in 1989 and 1994 respectively. In later she played the role of Teenage stepmother. Her career started as an adult in the year 2000 with a Bengali movie titled ‘Ek Je Aachhe Kanya’ in which she played a negative character and was appreciated. Her next movie was ‘Titli’ in 2002 in which she played opposite Mithun Chakraborty and her mother Aparna Sen. But she established herself in the same year when she appeared in another movie. ‘Mr. and Mrs. Iyer‘. The movie was successful among critics and she won rave views from them. Her role of a Tamil housewife won her the National Film Award for Best Actress. Later she starred in ‘Chai Pani Etc.’ in 2004 and ‘Amu‘ in 2005. But these movies are not remembered by anyone.

In the year 2005, she gave some more acclaimed performances like in ‘15 Park Avenue‘ and ‘Page 3‘. Page 3 was the movie from which she became famous and gets established herself as an actress in commercial cinema. The movie was a hit for which she earned the Zee Cine Award Best Female Debut jointly with Vidya Balan in 2006. Then she appeared in superhit movie titled ‘Omkara‘ in 2006 for which she got the Filmfare Best Supporting Actress Award and National Film Award for Best Supporting Actress. Her first release in 2007 was ‘Traffic Signal’ which was unable to show its magic at the box office. Her second released film of 2007, Life in a… Metro was released to good reviews and emerged as a hit in India. Also she appeared under Yash Raj Films banner in two movies - ‘Laaga Chunari Mein Daag’ and ‘Aaja Nachle’. But both the movies were unable to shine at the box office. She has recently starred in ‘Wake up Sid‘ which will release on October 2nd, 2009.
