A legendary National Film Award-winning Indian film actor, Mithun Chakraborty was born on June 16th, 1950 at Calcutta in West Bengal. He was born as Gouranga Chakraborty and later turned his name into Mithun Chakraborty. He is one of the prominent actors in the industry. He attended the renowned Scottish Church College in Calcutta and completed his graduation degree in chemistry (BSc). After that he attended and graduated from the Film and Television Institute of India, Pune. He married Yogita Bali who is also a Bollywood actress and the couple has three sons and a daughter named Dishani. Their eldest son named Mimoh has debuted in the Hindi Cinema with the movie ‘Jimmy’ as an actor in 2008. Other two sons are Rimoh and Namashi. Mithun has appeared in more than two hundred bollywood movies as well as in many Bengali and Bhojpuri movies.

Mithun Chakraborty started his career in the year 1976 with the movie ‘Mrigaya’ which was directed by Mrinal Sen. He became famous from his first starring and also won the coveted National Film Award for Best Actor. Later he played some supporting roles in the movies such as Do Anjaane (1976) and Phool Khile Hain Gulshan Gulshan (1977). But both the movies did not earned him any recognition in the industry. Two years later, in 1979 he became famous from the spy film titled ‘Surakshaa‘. Also in early 1980s he played some leading roles such as in ‘Hum Paanch’ in 1980 and ‘Wardaat‘ in 1981. But his best performance was yet to come which he showed in 1982 film titled ‘Disco Dancer‘. The movie was a superhit and especially the music of the movie, which remains a cult favorite to this day. He established himself as a talented dancer with this movie.

He also appeared in other musical films such as ‘Kasam Paida Karne Wale Ki’ (1984) and ‘Dance Dance’ (1987). He has done several movies which came in various genres like family drama, romantic, comedy, action, dance etc. Some movies which came under these genres are ‘Mujhe Insaaf Chahiye’ (1983), ‘Pyaar Jhukta Nahin‘ (1985), ‘Swarg Se Sunder’ (1986) and ‘Pyaar Ka Mandir‘ (1988). Also his action movies like Wanted (1983), Boxer (1984), Jagir (1984), Jaal (1986), Watan Ke Rakhwale (1987), Commando (1988), Waqt Ki Awaaz (1988), Guru (1989), Mujrim (1989) and Dushman (1990) created history. He has worked with some of the biggest actresses of his time and Bollywood in general, like Zeenat Aman, Padmini Kolhapure, Rati Agnihotri, Rekha, Sridevi, Madhuri Dixit and more. Later in his career, he played supporting roles in movies like Elaan (2005), Lucky (2005), Chingaari (2006), Guru (2007), Heroes (2008), Chandni Chowk To China (2008), C Kkompany (2008) etc.
