One of the most famous and prominent actress of Hindi Cinema named Moushumi Chatterjee was born on April 26th, 1948 at Calcutta (Kolkata) in West Bengal. She was born to the Bengali family of Prantosh Chattopadhyaya. His father was in the Army and also her grandfather was a Judge. Later she got married with Jayant Mukherjee who is none other than the son of very famous late singer, music composer and director, Hemant Kumar (Hemant Mukherjee). The couple has two daughters named Payal and Meghna. She had entered in the film line after her marriage which was very unusual for a woman at that time. Apart from her Bollywood Career, she has also acted in Bengali movies. In fact, she made her debut as an actress in the Bengali Cinema in the year 1967 with the movie ‘Balika Badhu‘ which was directed by Tarun Majumdar.

Maushami Chatterjee was shot to fame after the release of the movie and started to get several offeres. The movie was a big hit. Later her success always kept her on the top of the ratings in Bollywood in the decades of 1970s and 1980s. Her next movie was ‘Parineeta‘ which was released in 1969, two years later from the first. Also the movie was a big success at the box office and top the ratings. Later she starred in several successful movies such as Anuraag (1972), Anindita (1972), Naina (1973), Kuchhe Dhaage (1973) and Ghulam Begam Badshah (1973). She has also acted with the superstar actors such as Amitabh Bachchan, Dharmendra and Jeetendra. Her pair with Vinod Mehra in the movie ‘Anuraag‘ was also appreciated, though it was her first film in the Bollywood. She played as a blind girl and was nominated for Filmfare nominations as Best Actress.

Later in the year 1974, she starred in another hit movie titled ‘Roti Kapda Aur Makaan‘ in which she played a very effective role of a rape survivor. The movie earned her Best Supporting Actress Award at Filmfare. Also she has starred in many movies such as Benaam (1974), Raftaar (1975), Sabse Bada Rupaiya (1976), Zindagi (1976), Phool Khile Hain Gulshan Gulshan (1978), Do Ladke Dono Kadke (1979), Maang Bharo Sajana (1980), Angoor (1982) etc which were critically acclaimed. Her pair with Sanjeev Kumar in the movie ‘Angoor’ was also appreciated as well as her role too. Later she reduced to appear on the screen and started to do less movies. She starred alongwith her youngest daughter in a Bengali movie ‘Bhalo Bashar Onek Naam’ which was Meghna’s debut movie and the film was directed by the same director, Tarun Majumdar who had directed her mother too.
