S. Shankar directed movie ‘Nayak: The Real Hero‘ was released under the banner of Sri Surya Films on September 7th, 2001. The movie is full of politics and action drama and the lead roles in the movie were played by Anil Kapoor, Rani Mukherjee and Amrish Puri whereas the supporting roles in the movie were played by Johnny Lever, Pooja Batra, Sushmita Sen, Razak Khan, Nina Kulkarni, Paresh Rawal, Shivaji Satham, Saurabh Shukla, Raj Acharya and many more. The movie was produced by A.M. Rathnam whereas the songs of the movie were rendered by Abhijeet, Sunidhi Chauhan, Vasundhara Das, Hans Raj Hans, Hariharan, Kavita Krishnamurthy, Shankar Mahadevan, Udit Narayan, Alka Yagnik etc. The superhit music of the movie was given by very famous musician, A.R. Rahman. The story and screenplay were given by S. Shankar whereas the dialogues were written by Anurag Kashyap.

The movie is based on wicked politics and open the faces of corrupt politicians in which a common man always gets exploited and also gets nothing from it. In the begining of the movie, a guy named Shivajirao Gaekwad (Anil Kapoor) is a television reporter in a news channel named ‘Q TV’. He is the ace reporter of the channel who dares everything to get to the real news. Later one day riots occur in the city where Shivajirao has to go to cover the surrent news with his cameraman. He goes there and witnesses the brutal side of human and also has to witness dirty politics. Some days later, he gets a chance to interview the Cheif Minister of the state named Balraj Chauhan (Amrish Puri). During the interview, Balraj gets nervous and also angry with Shivajirao and offers him to be the Cheif Minister just for one day, so that he can feel the problems which a CM has during its period.

The offer is accepted by Shivajirao and from next day, he starts doing his work in a manner. He also gets a cunning personal assistant named Bansal (Paresh Rawal) who tells him the corrupt level of the system. There he comes across close of forty six thousand corrupt officials still employed with the State and also orders their suspension. He becomes popular within half a day. Later he also arrests Balraj in charge of corruption. On the other side, he has fallen in love with a village belle named Manjari (Rani Mukherjee). After one day, he is attacked by some goons send by Balraj and later decided to stand in election and also wins. Then starts the real game in which his parents are also killed in a bomb blast in his own house. But he is determined to serve people.
