One of the famous actress in Hindi Cinema, Padmini Kolhapure was born on November 1st, 1965 at Maharashtra. She was born to a Maharashtrian Konkani family to a Classical Singer father. His father’s family was from Kolhapur and Goa whereas her mother held a job working for the Airlines. Her family hailed from Mangalore. Padmini was a superhit actress during the 1980s and gave several superhit movies. Legendary playback singers, Lata Mangeshkar and Asha Bhosle are her father’s first cousins. She has two sisters named Shivangi Kapoor and a younger sister named Tejaswini Kohlapure who is also an actress. Her sister, Shivangi is married to Shakti Kapoor who is also an actor. Padmini is married to Pradeep Sharma and currently lives in Mumbai. The couple has a son named Priyank.

Padmini started her acting career from a very young age. She was in the chorus for some of their songs in the movies like Yadoon Ki Baraat, Kitab, Dushman Dost etc. In her later movies, she sang her own songs such as “Saat Saheliyan” in Vidhaata, “Hum Intezaar Karenge” in Sadak Chhaap. Later, Asha Bhosle suggested her name to legendary actor, Dev Anand and she was later casted in the movie ‘Ishq Ishq Ishq’ in 1975. She became famous from that movie and this led to other films, such as Dreamgirl (1978), Zingagi, Saajan Bina Suhagan (1978) etc. Her role in the 1977 movie titled ‘Satyam Shivam Sundaram’ was also accepted where she played he role of child Zeenat Aman. The very famous song “Yashomati Maiye Se” was picturised on her and she became famous and established herself in the induastry. Later she again starred in one of the hit movies, ‘Insaaf Ka Tarazu‘ in 1980.

Her role in that movie was her most controversial role of her career. This role also earned her the Filmfare Best Supporting Actress Award. Later in 1981, she starred in Nasir Hussain’s ‘Zamane Ko Dikhana Hai‘ opposite Rishi Kapoor. But the movie flopped at the box office. Soon she was again paired with Rishi Kapoor in 1982 for the film ‘Prem Rog‘ which became a successful movie and pushed her career forward. The film earned her a Filmfare Best Actress Award. She also earned a special acting award for the movie ‘Ahista Ahista’ in the same year, 1982. In the same year, she gave another hit movie, ‘Vidhaata’ and gave ‘Souten‘ in the next year, 1983. Also she worked with Mithun Chakraborty in 1985 in the movie ‘Pyar Jhukta Nahin‘. She also got Filmfare Nomination as Best Actress for this movie in 1985. Later she married and left the industry and again came back in 2004 in Marathi film ‘Manthan’ and ‘Chimnee Pakhra’ which were huge hits.
