Songs of A R Rahman
A very famous Bollywood playback siger as well as composer named A R Rahman was born on January 6th, 1966 at Chennai in Tamil Nadu. His birth name was A. S. Dileep Kumar and later he changed his name to A R Rahman. He was born to the family of R.K. Shekhar and Kareema (Kashturi) in a musically affluent Tamil family. His father was a Chennai based composer and conductor for Malayalam movies. But unfortunately he lost his father at a very tender age and the family has no other source of income. Therefore they started to rent out musical equipment as a source of income. He is married to Saira Banu and has three children named Khadijah, Rahima and Aameen. Also he is the founder of the Chennai-based rock group named ‘Nemesis Avenue’. He started his music learnings under Master Dhanraj. He began his early training under Ilaiyaraaja. He graduated with a degree in Western classical music from the Trinity College of Music.
A R Rahman’s music career started in early 1990s. He started his own music recording and mixing studio in 1992 which was attached to the backyard of his house. He called it as ‘Panchathan Record Inn’ which was later turned into India’s most advanced recording studio. There he initially recoreded the music jingles for advertisements, TV Channels and Documentries. In the same year, he scored the music of a Tamil film titled ‘Roja‘. He was awarded Rajat Kamal award for Best Music Director at the National Film Awards. It was 1995, when he entered in the Hindi Cinema with the movie ‘Rangeela’ in which he scored music. He was awarded Filmfare Best Music Director Award for the same. Also he has done playback singing for several movies such as Fiza (2000), Mustapha, Lagaan (2001), Sathiya (2002) etc.
His ability of singing is also very much popuar. He has rendered his voice to some of the superhit songs such as “Dil Se Re”, “Chale Chalo”, “Mustafa Mustafa”, “Piya Haji Ali” and “Mere Yaar Mila De”. Also his most hit song “Sathiya” in the movie Sathiya creates a rage in the nation. The very famous movie ‘Taal‘ was also famous for its songs which were composed by him. He has received the Mauritius National Award and the Malaysian Award for contributions to music. Also he has sung patriotic song “Desh Mere” from the movie ‘The Legend of Bhagat Singh’. He recently acheived a huge success at the Oscars when he created history for his music in the Oscar nominated movie ‘Slumdog Millionaire‘. He also gave his voice to one of the superhit songs “Tere Bina” in the film Guru in 2007.
