Songs of Aakhri Khat


Chetan Anand directed movie ‘Aakhri Khat‘ was released under the banner of Himalaya Films in 1966. The movie is full of family drama and the lead roles in the movie were played by Rajesh Khanna, Indrani Mukherjee and Master Bunty whereas the supporting roles were played by Nana Palsikar, Naqi Jehan, Tun Tun, Maruti Rao, Manvendra Chitnis, Mohan Choti and many more. The movie was produced by Himalaya Films whereas the songs of the movie were rendered by Manna Dey, Lata Mangeshkar, Mohammad Rafi and Bhupendra Singh. The music of the movie was given by famous music director and composer, Khayyam and the story of the movie was written by Chetan Anand. Also the screenplay of the movie was given by Chetan Anand and the lyrics of the songs were written by famous lyricist named Kaifi Azmi.

The movie is based on the story of a little child who has been left by his mother in custody of his father. In the begining of the movie, a guy named Govind Bali (Rajesh Khanna) lives a peaceful lifestyle. He is a young sculptor and later one day he goes to scenic Kullu for vacations. Later he meets with Lajjo (Indrani Mukherjee) there who looks him very pretty and beautiful. She lives in a village nearby alongwith her step-mother. Soon he falls in love with her and wants to get married with her. Also she is interested in him and later they both get married secretly in a village temple. After sometime, he has to leave for the city to pursue further education. Soon after she comes to know that she is pregnant. When her step-mother comes to know about her pregnancy, she sells her off for just five hundred rupees and Lajjo is beaten there.

After sometime she gives birth to a baby boy and named Buntu (Master Bunty). After an year, she comes to Bombay in search of Govind with her son. She leaves a letter for him at his doorsteps and want to leave the child but in vain. Later she keeps wandering in the city and at last dies leaving behind her son alone. Later Govind comes to know about the letter she has left behind. Soon he realises his mistake and with the help of police tries to find his wife and son and later only finds his wife’s dead body. On the other hand, the child is rescued by a kind hearted person who is a staff member of an orphanage nearby. But he escapes from there at night and later reaches home to find a statue of his lost mother. Also he meets with a new lady, who is now his new mother.
