Alka Yagnik is a famous bollywood female playback singer, who was born in Calcutta, West Bengal, India on 20th March 1996. She won the Fimfare Best Female PLayback Singer Award for seven time in her career. Her mother Shubha Yagnik was also a renowned singer in the Indian Classical Music field. She started her career at very small age in Calcutta Radio. She came to Mumbai at the age of ten with her mother. She started her career as a child singer but she did not find success there. she was advised to wait till maturity comes in her voice. But her mother refuse to wait at all and with the help of Calcutta distributor she had a meeting with Raj Kapoor. Raj Kapoor was so impressed with Alka’s voice that he immediately send her to the Laxmikant Payarelal. Laxmikant Payarelal also got impressed with her voice and gave her chance as a singer.

Her first song was from the film Payal Ki Jhankaar. It was released in 1979. She had sung the song Mere Angene Mein from the movie Laawaris in 1981. In 1988 she rendered “Ek do teen” from the hit movie Tezaab. The song became a hit and made her a superhit singer. She also won her first Filmfare Best Playback Singer award for the song. She can easily sing songs in many languages including Punjabi, Marathi, Telgu, Bengali and Tamil. She is still admired a lot for her melodious voice. She has worked with many hit Indian composers. She also played the role of judge in the singing competitions like Star Voice of India and Sa Re Ga Ma Pa.

She had recieved the Fimfare Best Female Playback singer award for three continious year from 1999 to 2001. She has won the various awards in her career including Fimfare best playback singer award for the movie Khalnayak, Tezaab, Taal etc, Zee cine Award for Kuch Kuch Hota Hai, MTV awards for the movie Dil Chaata Hai, Star Screen awards, International Indian FIlm Academy Award for the film Taal and Kaho Naa Pyaar Hai, National Film Awards for Kuch Kuch hota hai and Hum Hain Rahi Pyaar Ke and many more.
