Famous film director named Shakti Samanta directed movie ‘Amar Prem‘ was released under the banner of Shakti Films in 1971. The movie is full of romance and family drama and the lead roles in the movie were played by Rajesh Khanna, Sharmila Tagore and Sujit Kumar whereas the supporting roles in the movie were played by Vinod Mehra, Bindu, Madan Puri, Bobby, Satyendra Kapoor, Manmohan, Abhi Bhattacharya, Mohan Choti, Ram Mohan, Leela Mishra, Asit Sen etc. The movie was produced by Shakti Samanta whereas the songs of the movie were rendered by Sachin Dev Burman, Kishore Kumar, Lata Mangeshkar etc. Music of the movie was given by famous Rahul Dev Burman whereas the story was written by Bibhutibhushan Bandyopadhyay. Screenplay and dialogues were given by Arabinda Mukherjee and Ramesh Pant respectively. Movie did a good business at the box office.

The movie is based on family drama in which a woman gives love and affection to another’s child whereas he never gets this in his own house. In the begining of the movie, a child named Nandkishore Sharma commonly known as Nandu is born in a family. Soon after his birth, his mother tragically passes away leaving behind him and his father devastated. Shortly his father decides to re-marry so that Nandu can get the love from a mother. He re-marries with Kamla (Bindu) without knowing her intensions. Kamla is not so easy with Nandu and therefore he seeks love and affection from a neighbor named Pushpa (Sharmila Tagore). She also takes care of him, feeds him and even sings lullabies to get him to sleep. Whereas Kamla does not likes this at all and everely beats up Nandu whenever she finds out that he has gone to meet Pushpa.

Soon after that, Nandu’s parents decide to re-locate to another city so that he can get away from Pushpa. On the other hand, Nandu does not want to go with them but in vain. So he tearfully bids farewell to Pushpa but her love for him remains in his heart forever. Now several years later Nandu (Vinod Mehra) has grown up. His parents have passed away and also his siblings are settled independently. Nandu is now a married man and one day decides to take a nostalgic journey to the same town where he used to reside as a child. There he takes a room on rent in the same locality. Later he goes out in search of Pushpa and also asked some people about her as if someone knows him. But he is shocked to know that Pushpa is no longer living there. Nobody knows her as a woman who gave him motherly love but only knows her as a prostitute.
