Songs of Anuradha Paudwal
Famous bollywood playback singer, Anuradha Paudwal was born on October 27th, 1954. She has completed her studies from Xavier’s College in Mumbai. She married with Arun Paudwal who worked with veteran music director Sachin Dev Burman as his assistant. She was the first playback singer who challenged the monopoly of the Mangeshkar singers. Later she achieved the number one position in the film industry. She started her singing career in the year 1973 where she got the opportunity to sing a shloka in the movie ‘Abhimaan‘. Also in the same year she made her Marathi film debut with ‘Yashoda’. Oe year later she brought out a record of Non-film Marathi songs which became very popular among the people. She was applauded for her work. But she got her first break as a playback singer in the year 1976 with the film ‘Kalicharan‘ which went a hit. She once again found her path in the movie ‘Aap Beeti’ with her first solo.
In that movie she sang for famous duo Laxmikant-Pyarelal. Apart from them she has also occasionally sang for Rajesh Roshan, Jaidev, Kalyanji-Anandji and Usha Khanna. Anuradha sang in a number of Marathi movies alongwith bollywood movies. Some of her memorable numbers are “Disate Majalaa”, “Raja Lalakaari” and “Kaalyaa Maatita Maatitaa”. Although she has never received formal training in classical music but her voice is very much suitable for classical songs. She said she just practiced for many hours listening to Lataji. She was shot to fame with the movie ‘Hero‘ in 1983 where she sang the song “Tu Mera Hero Hai” and “Ding Dong O Baby Sing”. The song was composed by Laxmikant-Pyarelal. It is also called that the songs which Anuradha sang, were about to sang by Lata Mangeshkar but she could not make it at the last moment. Her later movies titled ‘Meri Jung‘, ‘Batwara’ and ‘Nagina‘ saw her more success.
She once again came in limelight with 1989 movie ‘Ram Lakhan’ where she sang three songs. But her collaboration with Laxmikant Pyarelal ended with the movie ‘Tezaab‘ where she sang “Kehdo Ki Tum” and “Hum Tumko Dilbar Kyon Mane”. In 1990s she got associated with movie producer Gulshan Kumar and showed her magic of voice in ‘Aashiqui‘ (1990) and ‘Dil Hai Ke Manta Nahin’ (1991). Thereafter she sang with many good playback singers such as Kumar Sanu, Udit Narayan, Abhijeet and Sonu Nigam. When she was at her peak, she announced that she would sing exclusively for the music company ‘T-series’. After about five years, she has restarted providing playback singing for movies. But she did not get a good response for her comeback. In that time she sang for ‘Mela’, ‘Mr & Mrs Khiladi’, ‘Hum Aapke Dil Mein Rehte Hain’, ‘Paap’ and ‘Intezaar’. She has won Best Female Playback for Utsav (1985), Aashiqui (1990), Dil Hai Ke Manta Nahin (1991) and Beta (1992).
