Songs of Asha Bhosle
Bollywood well-known playback singer, Asha Bhosle was born in Sangli, Maharashtra on 8th September 1933. She is the younger sister of bollywood most successfull singer Lata Mangeshkar. Asha’s father was a theater actor and a classical singer. At the age of nine Asha’s father died. Asha started her career in 1943 and till now she has rendered her voice for more than 1100 bollywood movies. She is one of the most successful singer, she can sing songs of all type including pop, ghazals, bhajans, folk, qawwalis etc. She had sung songs in 14 languages including Hindi, Telugu, Marathi, Nepali, Bengali and many more. Till 1991 Asha Bhosle had sung more than 12000 songs but her sister hold the record by rendering more songs than Asha. Lata was also featured in the Guinness World Record. However many person believes that Asha had sung more songs than Lata in her career.
Asha’s career started in 1943 when she rendered her voice for the song Chala Chala Nav Bala for marathi Movie Majha Bal. She entered into bollywood in 1948. Where she sang the song for the movie Saawan Aaya. It was directed by Hansraj’s Behl. At the age of 16, she got married with Ganapatrao Bhosle who was 31 year old at that time. She married to him against to her family wishes. But after few years she broke up with him and went to her maternal home with her two childrens and pregnant with her third child. At that time Asha was not able to get good projects because of prominent playback singer. So she used to do the projects which were dropped by the popular singer. That’s why in the starting she rendered her voice for b or c grade movies. In 1950s she became the singer who recorded most songs in the bollywood in a year but maximum of these songs were from the b-grade movies. In 1952 she sung songs in Sangdil starrer by Dilip Kumar but she faiuled to get popularity. She actually got famous after rendering her voice for the songs Nanhe Munne Bache from the movie Boot Polish.
In 1956 she got her big break in CID which was an O.P.Nayyar’s movie. In 1957 she collaborated with B. R. Chopra and worked in his movie Naya Daur. Her collaboration with B.R.Chopra produced many hit films. In 1966 she collaborated with R. D. Burman and also rendered her voice for the movie Teesri Manzil. After then she produced many hits with R. D. Burman. After few years she became the voice of bollywood’s most successful dancer Helen. She rendered many songs for Helen and almost every one of them were superhits. Few of them includes Yeh mera dil from Don, Piya Tu Ab To Aaja from Carvan and O Haseena Zulfo Vali from Tesri Manzil. She also recorded with many new generation composers as well including A R Rehman, Shankar Jaikishan, Anu Malik, Jaidev. She had also recorded her private albums. In one of her album she sung opposite Austrialian fast bowler Brett Lee and also with bollywood actor Sanjay Dutt. She won various awards in her career. She won the Filmfare best Female Playback singer awards seven times. She also won the Filmfare lifetime achievement award in 2001.
