Songs of Babul Supriyo


A very famous and well known for his singing ability playback singer, Babul Supriyo was born in Calcutta (Kolkata). His birth name is Supriyo Baral and he calls himself a clone of Kumar Sanu in singing. He is the granson of Banikantha N C Baral who was also a famous Bengali vocalist and composer in West Bengal. Therefore he also got the training of music from his childhood and as a result he won so many awards in several singing competetions during his school college and university days. He has also performed on regular basis on television and radio from very young age. After completing his masters degree he is pressurised from his father to take up the job with Standard Chartered Bank which he did but later his dedication towards music was much greater than that and therefore he left the job. He married with Rhea who is an Indian-Canadian.

He came to Mumbai in 1991 where he can fulfil his dreams. He continued to try his luck in Mumbai and soon got an opportunity to sing for famous banner T-Series. There he sang the cover versions of famous Kishore Kumar songs. Soon he got involved in foreign tour which was headed by famous duo Kalyanji-Anandji. He sang in the tour and attracted the duo who later gave him a break. This tour became a turning point in his life and career and soon he created his own place in the industry. His first break as a playbck singer was in the year 1994, with the movie ‘Prem Yog‘. He recorded for famous music director, Bappi Lahiri in that movie. After that he never looked back and got several offers. He sang in the movies like Gadar, Kranti Shetra, Dadagiri, Shashtra, Amaanat and so on.

Some of his hit songs like “Hata Sawan Ki Ghata” from Hello Brother and “Aaj Meri Zindagi Mein” from Khiladiyon Ka Khiladi, became hit but he never got the credit for his performance. In the year 2000, he gave his voice to the song “Dil Ne Dil Ko Pukara” in the movie Kaho Na Pyaar Hai, became a rage which was superhit nationwide. He has also released his solo album ‘Sochta Hun’ in 2005 which included simple music and mostly slow but fast occasionally music. His album was superhit because of its music. Later he sang “Meri Tarah Tum Bhi Kabhi” from Kya Yehi Pyaar Hai, “Jabse Dekha” and “Maine Koi Jadoo Nahin Kiya” from Mujhe Kucch Kehna Hai which were also appreciated by the listeners. Many of the music directors in the industary wants him to sing in their composition. In 2003, he has won MTV Immies Awards.
