Songs of Banarasi Babu
Shankar Mukherjee directed movie ‘Banarasi Babu‘ was released under the banner of Alankar Chitra on March 20th, 1973. The movie is full of romance and suspence thriller and the lead roles in the movie were played by Dev Anand, Rakhee Gulzar and Yogeeta Bali whereas the supporting roles in the movie were played by Jeevan, Veena, Manorama, Master Bhagwan, Maruti Rao, Shivraj, I.S. Johar, S.N. Tripathi, Bhushan Tiwari, Brahm Bhardwaj, C.S. Dubey, Rajan Haksar etc. The movie was produced by Shankar Mukherjee whereas the supehit songs of the movie were rendered by Asha Bhosle, Kishore Kumar, Lata Mangeshkar etc. The music of the movie was given by famous duo Kalyanji-Anandji and the story and screenplay of the movie was written by K.A. Narayan. Dialogues were given by Ramesh Pant. The movie did a good business at the box office.
The movie is based on a hansome young man named Sohan Lal (Dev Anand) who is actually an orphan and lives a wealthy lifestyle in Bombay. He is a wealthy businessman and also acquires a lots of wealth without taking care of his health and time. Therefore he needs a vacation to get out of his hectic lifestyle. He goes to Kashmir and there he meets a young and attractive woman named Neela (Rakhee Gulzar) in aukward situation and therefore they confront with each other. But later after a few misunderstandings both fall in love and want to get married. Soon Sohan weds Neela and then they return to Bombay. On reaching there with his wife, he is assisted by his manager named V.K. Saxena (Jeevan). Shortly, his manager tells him to travel to London for some business purpose for which Sohan gets agree.
Three months are gone in London and then Sohan comes back to India. But he is surprised not to see his wife there in the airport to receive him. So he decieds to go his hpuse but unfortunately he is attacked by some goons and later is kidnapped. He is placed in a cell where he meets a woman named Gulabiya (Yogeeta Bali). He once again is shocked when that woman tells him that she is his girlfriend. She also gets agree to help him in getting out of this and soon he comes out and escapes. But unfortunately he meets with an accident and later is hospitalised. There he meets a woman who calls him her son whose name is Mohan (Dev Anand). Now Sohan gets so embarrased with the situation and he returns home to get a very cold response from Neela. She also is about to inherit seventy lakhs from her deceased uncle. Confused Sohan decides to find out what exactly is going on.
