Very famous pop and bhangra singer Daler Mehndi is one of the famous playback singer in the bollywood industry who is currently active. He was born on August 18th, 1967 at Patna in Bihar. He started singing at the age of six where he was taught the ragas and Shabads from the Guru Granth Sahib by his parents. Also his parents sent him at the age of fourteen where he learnt the tabla, dholak/dhool, harmonium and tanpura and also refining his voice from Late Ustad Raahat Ali Khan Saheb of Gorakhpur. Later when he saw there is no such scope, he moved to San Francisco, United States where he worked as a cab driver. Later he returned to India in 1991 and there he formed a band with which he sang Afghan songs and ghazals which were inspired by the poets ‘Qateel Shifai’ and ‘Firaq Gorakhpuri’. When he came out with his first music album it broke all sales records in India.

Later he switched from classical music to pop and as a result his first album in 1995, titled ‘Bolo Ta Ra Ra‘ sold half a million copies in just four months. Overall twenty million copies were sold out. The exceptional thing of that album was the tunes of the album were based on those given to him by his mother. He has got Best Male Pop Singer Award from ‘Channel V’ in 1996 for ‘Dar Di Rab Rab ‘. Also in 1997 for ‘Ho Jayegi Bale Bale’. Apart from singing, he has also appeared in the movies ‘Mrityudata‘ (1997) and ‘Arjun Pundit’ (1999) in a very short role. His success leads him to make a contract worth rupees 20.5 million with Magnasound which is a record company. Moving towards his movies playback singing - he has given his melodious voice to some of the superhit movies such as ‘Singh Is King‘ (2008) and Rang De Basanti (2006). His songs a;ways encourage the youths such as “Rang De Basanti” from Rang De Basanti movie.

Also in the movie ‘Hello’ in 2008 he has rendered his voice in the song “Karle Baby Dance Wance” which was a superhit song. His song “Nach le” from the movie ‘Lakeer‘ in 2004 was also a superhit which adds some more versatility to him. Not only hindi cinema, he has also rendered his voice to the Tamil movie titled ‘Kuselan’ where he sang with K.S.Chitra and Sadhana Sargam. He was the one who first make use of the bluescreen technology in India in his album ‘Tunak Tunak Tun‘ in 1998 in which he wildly danced alongwith his clones. There are some controversies which are attached to him. Recently he was accused of being a member of a scam bringing illegal immigrants to Canada by disguising them as musicians but was released clearly from this accusition.
