Songs of Damini
Famous film director, Rajkumar Santoshi directed movie ‘Damini‘ was released under the banner of Cineyug Films Pvt. Ltd on April 30th, 1993. The movie is full of action and family drama and the lead roles in the movie were played by Sunny Deol, Meenakshi Seshadri, Rishi Kapoor and Amrish Puri whereas the supporting roles were played by Tinnu Anand, Sulabha Arya, Suhas Bhalekar, Anu Dhawan, Vijayendra Ghatge, Rohini Hattangadi, Kulbhushan Kharbanda, Achyut Potdar, Anjan Srivastav, Paresh Rawal, Viju Khote etc. The movie was produced by Aly Morani, Karim Morani and Bunty Soorma whereas the songs of the movie were rendered by Kumar Sanu, Sadhana Sargam and Alka Yagnik. The music of the movie was given by famous duo Nadeem-Shravan and the lyrics of the songs were given by famous Sameer. The story of the movie was written by Dilip Shukla. The movie was proved to be a hit at the box office.
In the begining of the movie, a guy named Shekhar (Rishi Kapoor) lives a wealthy lifestyle with his father named Mr. Gupta (Kulbhushan Kharbanda). Later one day, he goes to a hill station where he comes across a beautiful and young woman named Damini (Meenakshi Sheshadri) and falls in love with her after seeing her dance. Later he also meets him and then he decides that he is going to marry her and no one else. Damini lives with her father, Chandrakant (Anjan Srivastav) who is a postman by profession and her mother (Asha Sharma). Shortly Shekhar asks his father about Damini and later comes with him with marriage proposal. Also Mr. Gupta is charmed by the simple beauty and outright honesty of Damini. Soon he decides to have Damini as his daughter-in-law. Their marriage is arranged which is celebrated with great pomp and ceremony. Then she leaves his father’s house to re-locate with Shekhar in his house.
There she is not welcomed by her mother-in-law, Sumitra who had wanted her son to marry the daughter of wealthy Mr. Bajaj (Paresh Rawal). Then one day, on the occation of Holi, Damini witnesses Shekhar’s younger brother named Rakesh alongwith his friends, molesting a maid servent. She rushes to Shekhar and informs him. Both of them run to stop this crime but it is too late. Later the whole family decide to cover-up this shameful incident but Damini does not accept this. Therefore she inform the police and as a result she is thown out of the house. The matter goes in court where Gupta family’s lawyer, Indrajit Chhadha (Amrish Puri) confined Damini in an mental institution for two weeks by a judicial order. She escapes from there and meets an alcoholic lawyer, Govind (Sunny Deol). Later he re-opens the rape case and on the other side, the maid-servant dies in hospital and police write her death off as a suicide.
