Bhimsain directed movie ‘Gharaonda‘ was released in 1977. The movie is full of drama, romance and comedy and the lead roles in the movie were played by Amol Palekar, Zarina Wahab and Shreeram Lagoo whereas the supporting roles in the movie were played by Jalal Agha, Dina Pathak, Preetam Baily, T.P. Jain and many more. The movie was produced by Bhimsain whereas the songs of the movie were rendered by Runa Laila and Bhupendra Singh who gave their melodious voice to the sweet songs. The superhit music of the movie was given by famous composer and music director, Jaidev Verma. The lyrics of the songs were written by famous Gulzar. The movie was proved to be a superhit comedy of the year and did a good business at the box office.

The movie is based on the lives of two persons named Sudip (Amol Palekar) and Chaya (Zarina Wahab). Both of them live in Bombay and belong to the middle class. Sudip and Chaya work in the same office and soon attracted towards each other. Later they both plan to get married as soon as they have a house made for themselves. For this purpose they start to save every penny of their income to build a corpus for buying a house. Then they go in search of a house in the city which will suit their budgets. At last they finally investing in one and become excited about their future. The house is spacious well furnished and ready to live. After a short time the builder who is constructing their building runs into financial difficulties and commits suicide. The building project is abandoned and all the money of investors goes down the drain.

Both of them are shocked and does not know how to react. Now they have to start from the begining to accumulate the same amount to buy another house. On the other hand, the owner of their firm named Modi (Shreeram Lagoo) starts taking an interest in Chaya. Later he proposed her for marriage. Modi lives a wealthy lifestyle but is an ageing widower who is also a heart patient. Chaya is disappointed with this and tells Sudip who sees a big opportunity in this. Later he convinces Chaya to get marry with Modi as he will die after sometime as he is a heart patient. Now Chaya reluctantly agrees to marry with Modi. After the marriage, Chaya start her married life as a dutiful wife which adversely affect Modi’s health. Here Sudip is shocked to see a big benifit in Modi’s health due to Chaya. Sudip finally decides to go his own way.
