Songs of Iqbal
Nagesh Kukunoor directed movie ‘Iqbal‘ was released under the banner of Mukta Searchlight Films on August 26th, 2005. The movie is full of sport and drama and the lead roles in the movie were played by Naseeruddin Shah, Shreyas Talpade and Shweta Prasad whereas the supporting roles were played by Girish Karnad, Yatin Karyekar, Prateeksha Lonkar, Dilip Salgaonkar, Jyoti Joshi, Aadarsh Balakrishna, Gururaj Manepalli, Vikram Inamdar, Srikanth Chitrao etc. The movie was produced by Subhash Ghai, Elahe Hiptoola and Prem Pillai whereas the songs of the movie were rendered by Kay Kay and Sukhwinder Singh. The music of the movie was given by famous duo Salim-Sulaiman as well as Sukhwinder Singh. The superhit story of the movie was written by Nagesh Kukunoor himself. The movie did a good business at the box office.
The movie is based on a deaf and dumb boy who is determined to be a cricketer although having nobody to teach him in starting. In the begining of the movie, Iqbal (Shreyas Talpade) who is a deaf and dumb boy loves cricket too much. He is the son of a poor farmer named Anwar (Yatin Karyekar) who thinks it is just wastage of time to see the game of cricket as it costs the nation millions of lost work hours. His wife, Saida (Prateeksha Lonkar) as well as his daughter, Khadija (Shweta Prasad) however are not agree with him as they are also fond of cricket. Saida always wants to see her son a successful man whether it is the feild of cricket. Iqbal is so passionate about cricket as he has named his buffaloes on the names of famous cricketers like Kapil Dev. He always goes through the route where a training camp for budding cricketers is situated and it is his routine to stop for a while to see them.
One day Guruji (Girish Karnad) who is the coach there, sees him watching themselves and calls him. He goes there with his sister who later makes them understand his actions. Guruji gets impress with him and offers his coaching to him. Later he is also a part of the camp. But Kamal (Aadarsh Balakrishna) who is the top student there starts feeling insecure with his position due to Iqbal and both of them get in a fight. Later Guruji lets him go as Kamal’s father is wealthy businessman who wants Iqbal out of the camp. Disheartened Iqbal finds a new mentor in the form of alcoholic farmhand, Mohit (Naseeruddin Shah). At first, he refuses to be his coach but later agrees seeing his determination for cricket. After teching him some important lessons, they go for a selection in Andhra Pradesh Ranji team where Iqbal shows his real magic and at last gets selected in Indian Cricket Team.
