A very famous and prominent actress in Bollywood industry, named Jayapradha was born on April 3rd, 1962 at Rajahmundry in Andhra Pradesh. Her birth name was Lalita Rani and she was born to the middle class family of Krishna and Neelavani. Her father was a Telugu film financier and her mother enrolled her in dance and music classes at an early age. Moving to her personal life, she she married producer Srikanth Nahata in 1986. But he was already married to Chandra and had three children. Later they have cordially agreed to share a husband. As she was learning the dancing steps, she later gave a brilliant dance performance at her school at the age of fourteen. There she was first noticed by K.B Tilak who was a famous film director and producer and was present in the audiance. Later he gave her a three minute musical number in a Telugu film ‘Bhoomi Kosam‘ in 1976.

At that time Jaya hesitated at first but accepted it after her family support. Later she did the role and became famous for her dance. Then some big names in the field of direction approached her with leading roles. By the end of the year 1976, she became a superstar with three hits, ‘Anthuleni Katha’, ‘Siri Siri Muvva’ and ‘Seetha Kalyanam’ which was a mythological film. But she has cemented her place with the movie ‘Adavi Ramudu’ in 1977 which was a blockbuster hit. After getting so much of stardom in South, she moved to the Hindi Cinema. She made her debut in the year 1979 with the movie ‘Sargam‘ which was proved to be a superhit. The movie was actually a remake of Telugu movie titled ‘Siri Siri Muvva’. Jaya became superhit in the Bollywood as well with her first performance. The movie earned her first Filmfare nomination as Best Actress but didn’t get it due to problem in Hindi speaking.

Then she took three years gap before she was signed for the movie ‘Kaamchor‘ opposite Rakesh Roshan and Suresh Oberoi in the year 1982. She spoke Hindi fluently for the first time in the movie. Later in 1984, she once again appeared in a superhit movie ‘Sharabi‘ opposite superstar Amitabh Bachchan. She also earned the Filmfare nomination as Best Actress for the movie. Also in 1985, she played a challanging double role in the movie ‘Sanjog‘ for which she earned a Filmfare nomination as Best Actress. She alongwith Amitabh Bachchan and Jeetendra gave about a dozen movies. Later in the year 2002, she stepped in the Marathi film industry with a guest role in the movie ‘Aadhaar’. She has played in around three hundred movies in thirty different Indian languages. She joined Telugu Desam Party but later joined Samajwadi Party.
