One of the most prominent bollywood actor named Jeetendra is a popular Indian actor. He was born on April 7th, 1942 at Amritsar, Punjab to a Punjabi business family. His real name is Ravi Kapoor. Jeetendra spent his childhood in Girgaum, Mumbai although he was born in Punjab and there he lived in a middle class locality, Ramachandra Building. He has an attachment of that place thats why he still visits the place during Ganapati festival every year. It is said dreamgirl Hema Malini and he are almost got married, but she backed out. Later he married with Shobha Kapoor who is his childhood friend and have two children. His son, Tusshar Kapoor is a bollywood actor and his daughter named Ekta Kapoor runs Balaji Telefilms which makes popular television serials in Hindi, Tamil and other languages. Jeetendra is well known as ‘Jumping Jack‘ in the industry due to his unique dance style. He has appeared in almost two hundred films.
It is pretty exciting that Jeetendra was given a role in the movie titled ‘Navrang‘ in 1959 when he was supplying jewellery to V. Shantaram. That time he worked for his family business of jewellery. That movie was his debute movie in hindi cinema. He was given the role of actress Sandhya’s double. He was not noticed for his performance but got his first big break after four years with ‘Geet Gaya Pattharon Ne’ in 1964 opposite Bharathi. He played the lead role in the film and was noticed for the first time in the industry. His first hit came after three years in 1967 when he appeared in ‘Farz‘ which went on to become a golden jubilee success. The main reason behind the success of the movie was Jeetendra’s choice of T-shirt and white shoes which he picked up from a retail store and appeared in the song “Mast Baharon Ka Main Aashiq”. This became his trademark in the industry.
Some of his superhit movies during 1970s such as ‘Khilona’ (1970), ‘Parichay‘ (1972), ‘Nagin’ (1976), ‘Dharam Veer‘ (1977) and ‘Jaani Dushman’ (1979) earned him evergreen actor like Dev Anand. In 1980s, he was frequently paired up with Sridevi or Jayapradha and also worked for well renowned directors Rama Rao Tatineni, K. Bapayya and K. Raghavendra Rao. Movies like ‘Justice Chaudhry‘ (1982), ‘Mawaali’ (1983), ‘Himmatwala‘ (1983), ‘Jaani Dost’ and ‘Tohfa‘ (1984) were huge hits despite low critical acclaim. He has earned Lifetime Achievement Award in film personalities in 2000 and two years later in 2002, he got Filmfare Lifetime Achievement Award and Zee Gold Bollywood Movie Awards in New York. Also he got Legend of Indian Cinema Award at Atlantic City in 2004. Recently he got Sansui Television Lifetime Achievement Award in 2008.
