Vijay Anand directed movie ‘Jewel Thief‘ was released under the banner of Navketan on October 27th, 1967. The movie is full of suspence and thriller and the lead roles in the movie were played by Ashok Kumar, Dev Anand, Vyjayanthimala and Tanuja whereas the supporting roles in the movie were played by Helen, Anju Mahendru, Nasir Hussain, Faryal, D.K. Sapru, Pratima Devi, Jagdish Raj, Prem Prakash, Mansaram, Sachin etc. The movie was produced by Dev Anand and Kalpana Kartik whereas the songs of the movie were rendered by Asha Bhosle, Kishore Kumar, Lata Mangeshkar and Mohammad Rafi. The music of the movie was given by famous music director named Sachin Dev Burman. The story of the movie was written by K.A. Narayan whereas the screenplay and dialogues were written by Vijay Anand. The movie was a superhit at the box office.

The movie is based on the two identical persons who create several misunderstandings to many people in the movie. The story also includes the jewelery issue. In the begining of the movie, a handsome young guy by the name of Vinay (Dev Anand) is living a wealthy lifestyle in his palatial house. His father (Nasir Hussain) is the Police Commissioner of Bombay who lives with his wife (Pratima Devi). Vinay’s father is unhappy with him as he has not learnt any skills and spends all his time examining stones and jewelery which his father does not like in anyway. Then comes a daring jewel thief in the city who continues to baffle them to no end. Later Vinay is able to find a job with a leading jeweler by the name of Seth Vishamber Nath (D.K. Sapru). Soon he joins him and starts doing his work.

There he meets with Anjali Nath (Tanuja) who is commonly called as Anju in house and is the only daughter of Vishambhar Nath. Vinay founds her attractive, beautiful and young and therefore he falls in love with her. Later a problem which Vinay faces is, people greet Vinay as Amar or Prince Amar. Also a woman named Shalini Singh (Vyjayanthimala) comes forward and claims that Vinay is her fiancee. Now Vinay has to prove himself as Vinay indeed and also innocent. Then he decides to co-operate with them to locate this elusive Amar. But unfortunately he finds himself embroiled in a devious scheme, the scheme which loses his identity as well as memory and makes him a target of every policeman in India and Nepal.
