A very famous and prominent actor of Hindi Cinema, named Joy Mukherjee was born to the family of Sashadhar Mukherjee and Sati Devi. His father was a successful producer and a co-founder of Filmistan Studios. Also he has a lot of relatives who belong to the Hindi Film Indusrty. The very famous film director named Subodh Mukherjee is his paternal uncle whereas legendary actors Ashok Kumar and Kishore Kumar are his maternal uncles. Joy has two brothers named Deb Mukherjee and Shomu Mukherjee who was married to actress Tanuja and actresses Kajol and Tanisha alongwith Rani Mukherjee are his nieces. Joy Mukherjee has earned his named in the feild of acting in both types of cinema. He is also very famous in Bengali Cinema where he has given several hit performances.

Joy Mukherjee was first faced the camera in the year 1960 with the movie titled ‘Love In Shimla‘. He was paired up with actress Sadhana in the film. The movie was a hit at that time and did a good business at the box office. He became very famous from his first role in the movie. There is a very interesting story of his first role in the movie. Once his father and Agha Jani were sitting together and dicussing the leadin man in heir film. At that time, his father was in favour of evergreen Shammi Kapoor when suddenly Agha saw Joy coming from his Bombay University classes. He quickly pointed towards him and later he was selected for the lead role in the movie. Later he never ran out of the projects. After that he was also paired with Asha Parekh with whome he gave several hits like ‘Phir Wohi Dil Laya Hoon’ (1963) and ‘Ziddi‘ (1964).

The 1963 movie, Phir Wahi Dil Laya Hoon was also a superhit movie which earned him respect as an actor by critics. Later he appeared in five movies in the year 1964 including Ji Chahta Hai, Ishara, Door Ki Awaaz, Aao Pyaar Karen and Ziddi. But in late 1960s, he started to fall down because of the rise of newcomers such as Dharmendra, Rajesh Khanna, Jeetendra etc. Therefore Joy decided to move ahead of acting and to start producing and directing the movies. He then produced and directed Humsaaya but the movie did not do well and his subsequent films as producer or director did not do too well. But in 1972, he was successful with the movie ‘Ek Baar Muskura Do’. His last movie came was ‘Chailla Babu‘ in 1977 which starred Zeenat Aman and Rajesh Khanna.
