Songs of Kavita Krishnamurthy


Bollywood’s successful singer, Kavita Krishnamurthy was born in Delhi, India on 25th January. She got married with Dr. L Subramaniam on 11th November 1999. Her husband is also a violin player. She has a daughter named Seetha, who is Law graduate. Her father was a government employee. She rendered her voice in various bollywood movies and for various actresses. She started singing by practising Rabindra Sangeet. After then she joined Hindustani classical Music, where she took training under Shri Balram Puri. She won her first gold medal at the age of eight. When she was at her nine, she got the opportunity to sing with famous Lata Mangeshkar. She sang the song in Bengali which was composed by Hemant Kumar. After finishing her schooling she joinded St. Xaviers’ college to finish her Ph.D in economics.

At the age of 14 she moved to Mumbai. While doing her graduation, she met with Ranu Mukherjee, daughter of Hemat Kumar. Ranu introduced Kavita to her father. Hemant was impressed a lot from Kavita’s singing and gave her a chance to sing in his live performances. In 1976 with the help of her aunt Mrs. Bhattacharya, Kavita met with Mrs. Jaya Chakravarthy, mother of famous and most beautiful bollywood actress Hema Malini. Jaya took the responsibility of Kavita and introduced her to music director Laxmikant. In 1980 she rendered her voice for movie Maang Bharo Sajna. She sung the song Kaahe Ko Byaahi but the song was dropped in final cut of the movie. She then rendered few songs including Hawa Hawaii and Karte Hain Hum Pyar from the movie Mr. India starring Anil Kapoor and Sri Devi. It was released in 1987. The songs were proved to big hits and made her popular among masses. The songs were composed by Laxmikant-Pyarelal.

Later on she worked with many hit composers including Ismail Darbar and well-known R. D. Burman. She also rendered her voice for the movie 1942: A Love Story. It was released in 1994 and the songs were composed by R. D. Burman. Kavita and Dr. L Subramaniam are planning to start their own musical institute in Bangalore. Her wish is to teach Mozart and western music to the students. So that later on they can easily collaborate with western music. She also wants to make her own musical library. According to her, this library would be India’s biggest library and it would have all type of songs collection. In her career she had won many awards including Fimfare Best Female Playback Singer award for 1942: A Love story, Yaarana, Khamoshi and Devdas. She also won Padmashri Award, Yesudas award an many more.
