Kirron Kher is one of the famous Bollywood, Indian theatre and television actress and a TV talk show host. She is very popular in the industry for her supporting roles in various movies. Kirron was born on June 14th, 1955 at Mumbai, Maharashtra. She was born to the family of Jatt Sikh parents and brought up in Chandigarh in Punjab. There she also did her schooling and later attended college of Panjab University in Chandigarh. Her mother, Diljit Singh was active in sports and dramatics in in her college days and therefore Kirron was also an avid Badminton player. She has one sister named Kanwal Thakar Singh who is an Arjuna awardee and a brother named Amardeep Singh who was a painter and died in 2003. She was first married with actor and businessman, Gautam Berry and has a son named Sikander Kher. But later she divorced him and married with renowned actor, Anupam Kher in 1985.

Kirron has changed her name from Kiron to Kirron due to beliefs in numerology. She made her entry in the film acting in the year 1983 with a Punjabi feature film titled ‘Aasra Pyar Da’. She was also appraised for her role in the movie. But she temporarily quit from movies to raise her son. Meanwhile she worked for her second husband Anupam Kher as a costume designer. In the year 1988, she once again appeared in the movie ‘Pestonjee‘ alongside Anupam Kher. Her return in the field of acting came through a play ‘Saalgirah’ which was directed by Feroz Khan. Later she hosted three television shows, ‘Kurushkshetra‘ on Zee TV, ‘Kiron Kher Today’ and ‘Jagte Raho with Kiron Kher’. She made her come back in the Bollywood in 1995 with the movie ‘Karan Arjun‘. Her next movie was ‘Sardari Begum‘ in 1996 which won her the Special Jury Award at the 1997 National Film Awards.

She appeared in another superhit movie titled ‘Devdas‘ in the year 2002 where she plyed the role of mother of Paro. Her electrifying performance in the movie earned her nomination for the Filmfare Best Supporting Actress Award. Her career continued to earn some hit movies and in 2003, she starred in the film ‘Khamosh Pani’. She played the role of a woman who was abducted during the partition and later had to marry her abductor. She won the Best Actress Award at Locarno International Film Festival, Switzerland, the Karachi International Film Festival, Karachi and International Festivals at Ciepie in Argentina and Cape Town in South Africa. Some of her famous movies are Main Hoon Na (2004), Hum Tum (2004) and Veer-Zaara (2004), Rang De Basanti (2006), Mangal Pandey: The Rising (2005), Singh is Kinng (2008) and Dostana (2008). She has recently appeared in ‘Kambakkht Ishq‘ in 2009.
