Songs of Madhushree


One of the prominent playback singers in the Bollywood industry named Madhushree was born at Kolkata in West Bengal. Her birth name was Sujata Bhattacharya and she was born to the family of Amarendranath Bhattacharya and Parbati Bhattacharya in a Bengai brahmin family. She has the ability to sing in deifferent Indian languages such as Tamil, Hindi, Telugu and Kannada and also has done playback singing in these languages Cinema. She is a familiar voice in most of A. R. Rahman’s compositions. Also she hails from a musically inclined family. Therefore she has been trained in classical music. She wanted to be a classical singer from her childhood and therefore she joined the Rabindra Bharati University and completed her masters from there. Her parents were her first teachers of music and later she was taught classical music by Saneetacharya Pt. Amiya Ranjan Bandyopadhyay. She is married to an engineer and music director Robby Badal.

Madhushree started her career in playback singing in the year 2001 where she first did playback singing for the movie ‘Moksha’. In the movie, she sang the song “Mohabbat Zindagi Hai” which gained popularity. The song was directed by famous music director, Rajesh Roshan alongwith duo Salim-Suleiman. She was influenced by famous playback singer, Kumar Sanu with whome she met in Kolkata and on his recommendation, she then made her playback singing debut. She has then gone on to sing songs in the movies such as Yuva (2004), Aayitha Ezhuthu, Kal Ho Naa Ho (2003), Anbe Aaruyire and Kuch Naa Kaho (2003) and her most recent albums include A.R. Rahman’s Guru (2007) and Rang De Basanti (2006), Srikanth Deva’s Aalwar, Yuvan Shankar Raja’s Deepavali and Harris Jayaraj’s Unnale Unnale. Also her song “Vaaji Vaaji” in ‘Sivaji’ became popular which was directed by A. R Rahman.

In the year 2003, she sang three songs “Naa Shiqwa Hota”, “Mujpe Toofan Uthaye” and “Sabaq Aisa Padha Diya Tune” in the movie ‘Tehzeeb’. She was credited with her real name, Sujata Bhattacharya instead of Madhushree but the songs were unable to create any recognition. But in very next year in 2004, she was all set to give a sizzling song “Kabhi Neem Neem” from Yuva for whome she is better known for. Later she sang another hit song “In Lamhon Ke Daaman Mein” from the movie ‘Jodha Akbar‘ in 2008. Her performance cemented her place in the industry. She has learnt Tamil language to give her best and concentrate with more passion towards her work. She has also sung in the movies including Saathiya (2002), Swades (2004), Kisna (2005), Paheli (2005) and Mangal Pandey (2005). One of her another hit song is “Hum Hain Iss Pal Yahan” from Kisna which became very popular.
