Famous lyricist and film director named Gulzar, directed movie ‘Mausam‘ was released under the banner of Sunandini Pictures on December 29th, 1975. The movie is full of romance and musical drama and the lead roles in the movie were played by Sharmila Tagore, Sanjeev Kumar and Om Shivpuri whereas the supporting roles in the movie were played by Satyendra Kapoor, Agha, Dina Pathak, Lily Chakravarty, Pinchoo Kapoor, Mrinal Mukherjee, Mona Rajput, C.S. Dubey etc. The movie was produced by P. Mallikharjuna Rao whereas the songs of the movie were rendered by Asha Bhosle, Lata Mangeshkar, Mohammad Rafi and Bhupendra Singh. Music of the movie was given by famous Madan Mohan whereas the story was written by Kamleshwar. The screenplay and the dialogues were written by Bhushan Banmali and Gulzar respectively. The movie was a box office hit and did a good earnings.

The movie is based on different phrases of life of a guy who later wants to repent on his past. In the begining of the movie, a handsome and young guy named Amarnath Gill (Sanjeev Kumar) lives in scenic Darjeeling where he lives alone. He is a student of medical and there studying for his medical exams. One day he moves out of the house to get some relief of the stress and there he meets a small mishappening and hurts himself. He sprains his leg and seeks treatment from the local healer named Harihar Thapa (Om Shivpuri) who is ver famous around there. There Amarnath meets young and attractive girl named Chanda (Sharmila Tagore) who is the only daughter of Harihar. Later they both fall in love and one day they break all the barriers and at last get intimated. Later Amarnath has to go from there for his medical practice but he promises her that he will come back soon.

She starts waiting for him but he never comes. Now the story turns to twenty five years forward. Now Amarnath becomes a doctor and one day he decides to return to Dargeeling hoping to relax. There he becomes curious to know about Chanda and her father. Then he comes to know that Harihar passed away long ago while Chanda has to marry an aged and invalid man, gave birth to a baby girl, subsequently became insane and died. Also he comes to know that Chanda sent her daughter named Kajli (Sharmila Tagore) away to another town to study and become a doctor. He becomes shameful to what he has done with Chanda and her family. Then he decides to have his daughter back to him and soon comes to know that is not studying medicine but earning her living in a brothel. Therefore he goes there and ‘buys’ her to keep her with him. Everyone suspects on Amarnath but only he knows the truth.
