Very well known bollywood director named Mehul Kumar directed movie ‘Mrityudaata‘ was released under the banner of Amitabh Bachchan Corporation Limited (A.B.C.L.) in 1997. The movie is full of action and family drama and the lead roles were played by Amitabh Bachchan, Dimple Kapadia, Karisma Kapoor, Arbaaz Ali Khan and Paresh Rawal whereas the important supporting roles were played by Mukesh Rishi, Ashish Vidyarthi, Tiku Talsania, Mushtaq Khan, Avtar Gill, Dinesh Hingoo, Vikas Anand etc. The movie was produced by Amitabh Bachchan and the songs of the movie were rendered by Abhijeet, Mohammed Aziz, Sudesh Bhonsle, Daler Mehndi, Poornima, Vinod Rathod and Alka Yagnik. The music of the movie was given by duo Anand-Milind whereas the story. screenplay and the dialogues of the movie were written by Mehul Kumar and Jalees Sherwani respectively. The movie was proved to be average at the box office.

The movie revolves around Dr. Ram Prasad Ghayal (Amitabh Bachchan) who is a very famous surgeon and is known for his magical hands in surgeory. He has a wife named Janki (Dimple Kapadia) who is supportive to him and also has a brother named Bharat Ghayal (Arbaaz Ali Khan) who loves and respects him. He lives a wealthy and a happy lifestyle alongwith his family of three. Janki also loves Bharat as her son as she had made a promise to his dying mother that she will look after him as her own son. Now Bharat has grown up and has fallen in love with Renuka Jain (Karishma Kapoor) who is a gorgeous girl. They both want to marry each other and soon Bharat introduces her to his family. Both Ram and Janki approves of her and later Renuka also introduces him to her father named Umeshchan Jain (Tiku Talsania) who also approves of this alliance. Soon a date is fixed of engagement.

But before the engegement Bharat is caught red-handed being intimate with a woman named Rajni who is later killed. Then Inspector Danapani (Mushtaq Khan) who has the charge of this case, arrests Bharat on the charge of murder as his finger-prints are found on the gun. he whole matter goes to court where he is tried. But the court still has not decided any verdict and Bharat is found hanging in his cell. The view is looking like he has committed suicide. Janki gets a huge shock which she cannot bears and passes away leaving behind Ram alone. Then Ram turns to an alcoholic as he has lost his wife and brother. Here Renuka is married to Raja Tonga (Deepak Tijori) and leads a settled life. One day Raja comes across an accident and the only doctor who can save him is Ram. But Renuka prefers another doctor to perform the operation. But everyone get shocked when Ram performs the operation resulting in Raja’s death.
