One of the famous playback singers named Mubarak Begum is also a famous Ghazal singer. She was famous for her singing ability during the decades of late 1940s, 1950s and 1960s. She was born at Sujangarh in Churu, Rajasthan and started her career with some light music. She sang for All India Radio which was the Indian government radio. Later she got the chance to show her talent in the field of playback singing. She started playback singing with the movie titled ‘Aaiye’ in which she sang the song “Mohe Aane Lagi Angrayi Aaja Aaja Balam”. This song became hit and she got her unique identity in the industry. Her break in the movie was provided by Shaukat Dehlvi who was also the composer of that song. Later she also sang a duet with Lata Mangeshkar who was also the upcoming singer of that era.

Mubarak Begum was only provided few lines instead of complete songs in the initial stage of her career. She struggled a lot to get the complete songs and at last she was considered and got to sing seven songs in the movie ‘Daayaraa‘. Unfortunately the movie was not successful and with the movie, her hopes of becoming the playbcak singer in the industry were also drawned. Later she was once again considered by legendary filmmaker, Bimal Roy gave her another chance to show her talent in his next movie titled ‘Madhumati‘. That was a joyful moment for her and she sang the song “Haal-e-Dil Sunayenge” which gained respectable reviews and the song became a hit. The song was in the top among the many hits in the extremely successful movie. But her luck was not in her way as she frequently got some flop movies which badly affected her career.

She continued to have only an occasional hit over the subsequent years. Therefore she never reached to the top position yet having melodious voice. In the year 1961, she got the chance to sing in the movie ‘Hamaari Yaad Aayegi’. She recorded for the composer Snhela Bhatkar in the movie. There she sang the song “Kabhi Tanhaiyon Mein” which proved to be another major hit in her career. Also she has sung in many movies such as Haar-Jeet, Chandan, Gul Bahar, Phoolon Ke Haar, Maharani, Rishta, Dhola Maru, Jasoos, Awara Ladki, Jalim Jadugar, Annadata, Nai Imarat, Dharma Patni, Gawaiya, Devdas etc. Also she recorded for some famous composers like Bipin Babul, Kalyanji-Anandji, Sachin Dev Burman, Jamal Sen, Iqbal Qureshi, S.N. Tripathi and Dattaram Naik.
