Songs of Mumtaz


One of the most famous and prominent actress of Bollywood named Mumtaz was born on July 31st, 1947 at Bombay. She was a very famous actress in 1960s and 1970s. She was born to the muslim family of Abdul Saleem Askari and Sardar Shadi Habib Agha and originally she is of Iranian origin. She married Mayur Madhvani who is a millionaire, on May 29th, 1974 and later becomes mother of two daughters named Natasha and Tanya. Natasha is her elder daughter who is recently married with bollywood actor, Fardin Khan in December, 2005. She also has a sister named Mallika who is married with Randhawa, the younger brother of Dara Singh. She has acknowledged that she has successfully battled with cancer and also she alongwith her husband have overcome personal problems in their marriage.

Mumtaz entered in Bollywood when she was just twelve years of age. She started her career as an extra in films in the year 1961. She has appeared in very small roles in some of the successful movies like in ‘Mujhe Jeene Do‘ in 1963 and also in small budget films such as Boxer, Samson, Tarzan, and King Kong. Most of her movies came with freestyle wrestler Dara Singh with which she performed in action movies and therefore she was labelled as a stunt film heroine. In 1965, she got her first role in an ‘A’ Grade movie titled ‘Mere Sanam‘ in which she played a supporting role as a vamp. Also she is remembered for the sexy song “Yeh Hai Reshmai”. After the success of that song, she once again appeared in the sexy song “Aye Dushman Jaan” from the movie ‘Patthar Ke Sanam‘ in 1967. Later in the same year, she got major role in ‘Ram Aur Shyam‘ opposite Dilip Kumar.

That movie earned her first Filmfare nomination as Best Supporting Actress. After that she never looked back and was flooded with offers. Later she gave some hit movies such as Brahmachari (1968), Mere Humdum Mere Dost (1968), Yeh Raat Phir Na Aayegi (1968) etc. Mumtaz became a full-fledged star in 1969 when she starred in blockbuster film ‘Do Raaste‘ opposite Rajesh Khanna. Once famous actor Shashi Kapoor refused to work with her because of her stunt film heroine role in ‘Saccha Jootha’. But later he also wanted her in to be his heroine in ‘Chor Machaye Shor‘ in 1974. She has won the Filmfare Best Actress Award for one of her favorite films Khilona in 1970. She became very popular in pair with Jeetendra and Rajesh Khanna. In 1977, she quit acting after her appearance in Aaina (1977) which was a flop. She once again returned for one final film in 1989, titled ‘Aandhiyan’. She received the Filmfare Lifetime Achievement Award in 1996.
