Songs of Naseeruddin Shah
Naseeruddin Shah is a very famous name in the Bollywood industry. He was born on July 20th, 1950 at Barabanki in Uttar Pradesh and is a highly acclaimed and versatile Bollywood actor. He is a descendant of the 19th-century Afghan warlord Jan Fishan Khan. He has completed his schooling at St. Anselm’s, Ajmer and St Joseph’s College in Naini Tal. Later he completed his graduation from Aligarh Muslim University in 1971. After that he also attended National School of Drama in Delhi. He has been active in both streams of cinema i.e. mainstream Bollywood cinema and Parallel Cinema. Apart from Bollywood, he also has appeared in many Hollywood movies and remembered for the role of Captain Nemo in the Hollywood comic book adaptation The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen. He has an elder brother named Zahiruddin Shah who has retired from Indian Army as Deputy Chief of Army Staff. He married Ratna Pathak Shah and has a daughter, Heeba and two sons named Imaad and Vivaan.
After completing his course from National School of Drama, Delhi, he started playing theatre and also formed a theatre group called Motley Productions alongwith Tom Alter and Benjamin Gilani in 1977. In 1980, with the movie ‘Hum Paanch‘ he started his career in Bollywood. The movie was a superhit which shot him to the fame. He starred in the movie alongwith successful actors like Sanjeev Kumar, Shabana Azmi, Mithun Chakraborty and Raj Babbar. He once again noticed for his performance in the movie ‘Karma‘ in 1986. The movie was a superhit as well as he. Later after one year, in 1987 he got his first role as a lead actor in the movie Ijaazat. From then on he starred in some movies as a lead hero such as Jalwa (1988) and Hero Hiralal (1988). Also his performance in multi-starrer Bollywood films such as Ghulami (1985), Tridev (1989) and Vishwatma (1992) is of a high class.
His hundredth movie was ‘Mohra‘ in 1994 in which he played as a villain. In 1999, he played the role of Gulfam Hassan in the superhit movie ‘Sarfarosh‘. Also his role of Mahatma Gandhi in the movie ‘Hey Ram’ in 2000 was critically accepted. He played that role from his soul. Also he has done some international projects such as Monsoon Wedding in 2001, The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen in 2003, Indian adaptation of Shakespeare’s Macbeth titled Maqbool in 2004 etc. His talent is not only bound within the Bollywood and Hollywood, rather he has showed his talent on the television by performing some powerful roles such as Maratha King Shivaji, Mirza Ghalib in 1988 which was telecasted on Doordarshan. He has won Filmfare Best Actor Award for Aakrosh, Chakra and Masoom in 1980, 1981 and 1983 respectively.
