Neelam Kothari is a former actress of Bollywood industry who was born on March 3rd, 1968 at Hong Kong. She is also an established jewellery designer. Her other name is Sangeeta but popularly known as Neelam worldwide. As she was born in Hong Kong, she spent her early childhood there and later moved to Bangkok with her family. She learnt Ballet for five years in Hong Kong before moving to Bangkok. Her family has a business of traditional jewellery making in which she gets involve in her later Bollywood career. She was married to Rishi Sethia who was son of a rich businessman from U.K, though his family was not interested in this marriage. Later the marriage ended in a divorce. She did a formal course in Mumbai and started her out commercially on her own under the name of Neelam Jewels. In 2004, she has opened a showroom and never looked back.

Once Neelam was on holidays in Mumbai where she was approached by famous film director, Ramesh Behl. He offered her a role in the movie ‘Jawani‘ alongside Karan Shah, Anupam Kher, Sharmila Tagore and Moushumi Chatterjee. Later she decided to give it a shot and was selected for the movie. But unfortunately, the movie ‘Jawani’ in 1984 became a flop. But her luck once again charms when after two years in 1986, she got a movie titled Ilzaam in which she appeared opposite Govinda. The movie was a hit at the box office and also it was the debut for Govinda. In the same year, she was again paired with Govinda in the movie ‘Love 86′ which proved to be successful to her. From then on she frequently appeared with Govinda in the movies such as Khudgarz (1987), Hatya (1988), Taaqatwar (1989) and Do Qaidi (1989).

In her later career, she got mix success from the movies such as Gharana, Farz Ki jung, Agneepath, Shankara, Parampara, Antim Nyay etc. She appeared in ten movies in the year 1990 from which she got mix response. The 1996 movie titled ‘Sauda’ became hit in which she played the lead role. She was noticed by the critics and also applauded. She became famous from her role as VJ in the movie ‘Kuch Kuch Hota Hai‘ in 1998. She was remembered for her role in the movie. In 1999 she appeared in the multi-starrer family film ‘Hum Saath-Saath Hain: We Stand United‘ which was a superhit. But she quit her film career in the same year and did a formal course in Mumbai for jewellery designing. Her most recent release was Kasam in 2001. She has appeared with Sanjay Dutt, Govinda, Salman Khan etc. in her career.
