Poonam Dhillon is a very famous Bollywood actress who played several types of roles in the movies. She is a noted Indian Hindi film, theatre and television actress who was born on April 18th, 1963 in Kanpur, Uttar Pradesh. She was born to the family of Amrik Singh Dhillon and Gurcharan Kaur Dhillon. Her father was an aeronautical engineer in the Indian Armed Forces. She has completed her schooling from Carmel Convent High School in Chandigarh, Punjab. She has a younger sister named Dr. Rishma Dhillon-Pai who is a gynecologist and a brother named Dr. Baljinder Singh Dhillon, pediatrician. Beyond her filming career, she ventured into the make-up van business and successfully runs her make-up van company, ‘VANITY’. She was married to film producer Ashok Thakeria in 1988 but get seperated in 1997. She has a son named Anmol and a daughter named Paloma.

She was just sixteen years of age when she was crowned as the beauty queen title of Femina ‘Miss Young India’. There she was first noted by famous film director named Yash Chopra who decided to give her a chance in his directed, blockbuster movie titled ‘Trishul‘ in 1978. He gave her a romantic role and she became famous from the song “Gapoochi Gapoochi Gum Gum”. That was her debut in the industry and later her performance was very much liked by Yash Chopra. He once again gave her a role in the movie ‘Noorie‘ next year in 1979. But this time she was casted as a leading lady in the film where she played as Noorie Nabi opposite Farooq Shaikh. The movie was proved to be a superhit which earned Poonam a Filmfare nomination as Best Actress. From there she was included in the list of upcoming heroines in the late seventies and early eighties.

She has appeared in about ninety Hindi movies such as Sohni Mahiwal, Red Rose, Teri Kasam, Dard, Nishana, Yeh Vada Raha, Samunder, Romance, Kasam, Sitamgar, etc. The role of her as Sohni in the movie Sohni Mahiwal in 1984 opposite Sunny Deol became a rage and everybody in the country accepted her. She has also starred in various language movies such as Bengali, Kannada and Telugu. Later in 1996, she once again appeared on the silver screen in the hit film Judai where she did a cameo. She has also done Hindi theatre where she appeared in the play ‘The Perfect Husband‘ which was a super hit comedy. She also won the best comedy play award in 2005 and which recently completed Golden Jublee run.
