Hit movie Prem Rog is a romantic drama which was directed by Raj Kapoor and released under the banner of R.K. Films Pvt. Ltd on 31st July 1982. It is based on the very sensitive issue of the second marriage of a widow. Rishi Kapoor, Padmini Kolhapure and Shammi Kapoor starred in lead roles while Raza Murad, Kulbhushan Kharbanda, Tanuja, Nanda, Bindu, Vijayendra Ghatge, Om Prakash etc were in supporting roles. The dialogues pf the movie were written by Jainendra Jain and the hit music of the movie was given by duo Laxmikant-Pyarelal. Anwar, Sudha Malhotra, Lata Mangeshkar and Suresh Wadkar gave their prominent voice in the songs of the movie as the playback singers and Santosh Anand wrote the lyrics of the songs which touched the hearts. The movie has won four Filmfare Awards in different categories in which Padmini Kolhapure’s Best Actress Award was also included.

The movie starts with a child who is orphaned at a very small age. He is adopted by his uncle (Om Prakash) who is a pujari and his aunt Premvati (Dulari) and named him as Devdhar (Rishi Kapoor). They have a daughter named Radha (Kiran Vairale). Devdhar and his family lives a poor lifestyle. His uncle pujari works for a very wealthy family which is headed by Bade Thakur (Shammi Kapoor). He prepares astrological charts and organizes prayers for his family. Once he asks for some kind of help in terms of money so that he can send Devdhar to Bombay for higher studies. Bade Thakur gets agree and helps him financially and Devdhar soon goes to Bombay. After so many years, now Devdhar gets matured and invited in the marriage of her sister Radha. Soon he comes back to his family so that Radha could get married.

There he meets his childhood friend Manorama (Padmini Kolhapure) who also gets matured and looks pretty attractive and beautiful. Manorama is Bade Thakur’s paternal niece. He falls in love with her after seeing Manorama. Here she also loves him but shows a lack of experience about love and intimacy. Radha is compelled to marry to a much older man from her age. Now Dev gets a huge shock when he comes across that Manorama’s marriage is arranged with Kunwar Narendra Pratap Singh (Vijayendra Ghatge). After some days, the marriage takes place with great pomp and ceremony. This breaks the heart of Dev and he returns to Bombay from his village. The time goes on and Dev once meets with Radha who is now pregnant. Later he visits his uncle and aunt and gets a big shock of his life when he comes to know that Kunwar Narendra Pratap Singh is no more. Manorama is forced to live the life of a widow which he cannot see.
