Raja Hindustani is a romantic love story movie which was released on 8 November 1996. The director of the film is Dharmesh Darshan. The movie was produced by Aly Morani, Karim Morani and Bunty Soorma. The music for the film was given by the well known duo Nadeem-Shravan. Songs of the movie became big hits at the box office, specially “Pardesi pardesi jana nahi” rendered by Suresh Wadekar and Sapna Awasthi. It is a story of a cab driver ( Aamir Khan ) from a small town, who falls in love with a rich girl ( Karishma Kapoor ). Aamir and Karishma played the lead role in the film. Karishma Kapoor was praised a lot for her versatile acting in movie and won filmfare best actress award for her performance in the flick. Other supporting actors of the movie are Suresh Oberoi, Johnny Lever, Navneet Nishan, Veeru Krishnan, Farida Jalal, Archana Puran Singh and Tiku Talsania.

Raja Hindustani ( Aamir Khan ) is a cab driver and a tourist guide. He lives with his uncle ( Tiku Talsania ) and aunty ( Farida jalal ) in a small hill station named Palankhet. Aarti Sehgal ( Karishma Kapoor ) is the daughter of a rich businessman, Mr Sehgal ( Suresh Oberoi ). She always miss her mother as her stepmother Shalini ( Archana Puran Singh ) is very rude and cruel. In order to connect herself from her mother’s memories, Aarti decides to go on a vacation to Palankhet where her mother and father met for the first time and felt in love with each other. Upon arrival to Plankhet she met Raja Hindustani and get impressed by him because of his good humor. Raja becomes her tourist guide and he insists her to stay in his uncle’s house. Raja’s simplicity and honesty draws Aarti towards him. She recieved good care and love in Raja’s uncle house which she was missing after the death of her mother. During her stay in Plankhet, Raja and Aarti fall in love with each other. One day, to Aarti’s surprise, her father arrives in Palankhet and intends to bring her home with him. Aarti discloses her feeling for Raja, to which her father first opposes but later on Aarti’s request he agrees on one condition, if Raja come with them to live in Mumbai and learn to become a respectable member of society. Raja refused Mr Sehgal proposal. Aarti decides to choose Raja. Mr Sehgal leaves for Mumbai without giving blessing to his daughter.

After some time, Mr Sehgal forgives his daughter and again surprisingly visits her in Palankhet. He gifts his daughter and son-in-law a new house. Raja refuses to accept the gift as he considers this against his moral value. Due to the tricks played by Aarti’s stepmother, Raja’s moral value became the reason for the separation of Aarti and Raja. In the end Mr Sehgal discovers the truth of his wife Shalini and clear all confusion between Aarti and Raja. Movie was a big hit at box office. The lyrics of movie were written by Sameer.
