Songs of Rajesh Khanna
One of the famous and veteran bollywood superstar Rajesh Khanna was born on December 29th, 1942 at the city of Amritsar, Punjab. His real name is Jatin Khanna and he was adopted by the couple who has already three daughters of their own. He is also nick named as ‘Kaka’ and has been termed as the first ‘Superstar’ of the Indian film industry. In late 1960s he was linked with Anju Mahendru but the couple eventually split up in early 1970s and later he married with Dimple Kapadia in 1973. He has two daughters named Twinkle Khanna who is an interior decorator and also a former Hindi film actress and who is married with Bollywood Superstar Akshay Kumar and his second daughter named Rinke Khanna is also an Indian actress and is married to an entrepreneur named Sameer Saran. But in the year 1984, Rajesh Khanna and Dimple Kapadia separated due to his schedule which kept him away much of the time. Also she became interested in pursuing an acting career.
Their relationship once again blossomed and remained that of close friends. Now talking about his acting career, Rajesh Khanna won All India Talent Contest through a nation-wide selection procedure and then joined the film industry. 1966 was the year in which he made his debut with the movie ‘Aakhri Khat’ in which he played the role of Govind opposite Naqi Jehan. But that movie did not score too much. Then he appeared in ‘Raaz‘ next year which also went unnoticed. In that movie he starred with actress Babita. Later he was shot to fame with his next movie ‘Baharon Ke Sapne’ in the same year followed by box office successes like Aurat (1967), Khamoshi (1969) and Aradhana (1969). He often appeared with the same actresses such as Sharmila Tagore, Mumtaz, Hema Malini and Asha Parekh. He was at his peak at that time and had largest fan following than any other actor had.
Some of his superhit movies are Do-Raaste (1969), Bandhan (1969), Doli (1969), Saccha Jhuta (1970), Kati Patang (1970), Aan Milo Sajna (1970), Safar (1970), Anand (1970), The Train (1970), Haathi Mere Saathi (1971), Dushman (1971), Maryada (1971), Andaz (1971) and Amar Prem (1971). But later years of his career were not so golden for him as gave some flop movies such as Aaina and Mehbooba in 1976 but once again came very strongly with Amardeep, Thodi Si Bewafai, Dard, Tum Na Hote, Souten etc. from 1979 onwards. Most of the songs in his movies were sang by Kishore Kumar and composed by R. D Burman thus shared a very close relationship with R. D. Burman and Kishore Kumar. He left acting in 1990s and became Member of Parliament from 1991 yo 1996 of New Delhi Constituency. He made a come back with the 1999 movie ‘Aa Ab Laut Chalen’. He has won Filmfare Best Actor Award for Sachcha Jhutha in 1970, Anand in 1971, Aavishkaar in 1974 and Filmfare Lifetime Achievement Award in 2005.
