Songs of Rakhee Gulzar
One of the most beautiful and talented actress in the Bollywood named Rakhee Gulzar was born on August 15th, 1947. She is originally from the state of West Bengal. She is a top actress of her era i.e. from late 1960s to 1970s. She had an arranged marriage when she was still a teenager. She was married with Ajay Biswas who was a Bengali film director. But soon their marriage breaks up and unhappily thereafter. Later she got married with film director, poet and lyricist, Gulzar with whome she lived shortly and thereafter they get seperated but never divorsed. She has a daughter named Meghna who is also a film director and has directed some movies like Filhaal, Just Married and Dus Kahaniyaan. Rakhee’s film career started in the year 1967 when she first appeared in a Bengali film titled ‘Badhu Baran’. She won rave reviews for this movie and later got several offers.
Rakhee’s debut in the Hindi Film industry was in 1970 with the movie ‘Jeevan Mrityu‘, a Rajshri Productions Film. She was offered the lead role in the movie and appeared alongside Dharmendra. Later in next year, in 1971 she was shot to fame with the superhit movie ‘Sharmilee‘ in which she played a double role opposite superstar Shashi Kapoor. After that she established herself as a leading lady in the industry and starred in some superhit films such as Heera Panna (1973), Daag (1973), Blackmail (1973), Tapasya (1976), Kabhie Kabhie (1976), Muqaddar Ka Sikander (1977), Trishul (1978), Kaala Patthar (1979) Lawaaris (1981) Jurmana (1979) and Bemisal (1982). She starred alongside superstar Amitabh Bachchan in several movies and also paired frequently with him. In 1973, she got her first Filmfare Award For Best Supporting Actress for the movie ‘Daag: A Poem of Love’.
She appeared in the movie ‘Tapasya‘ in 1976 in which she played the role of Indrani Sinha. This role earned her Filmfare Best Actress Award in the same year. In the begining of late 1980s, she switched to play motherly roles and supporting roles such as in ‘Ram Lakhan’ (1989). She never thinks of star status but gives preference to the good and quality roles in her career. After that in 1990s, she completely turned to supporting roles. The movie like Baazigar (1993), Khalnayak (1993), Karan Arjun (1995), Border (1997), Soldier (1998) and Baadshah (1999), she played supporting roles mainly of mother. Also in 1989, she again won Filmfare Best Supporting Actress Award for Ram Lakhan and National Film Award for Best Supporting Actress for the Bengali film Shubho Mahurat in 2003. The same year she was awarded Padma Shri Award. She last appeared in Bollywood movie titled ‘Dil Ka Rishta’ in 2003.
