One of the most famous and prominent actress in Bollywood, named Rani Mukherjee was born on March 21st, 1978 at Kolkata in West Bengal. She was born to the family of Ram Mukherjee and Krishna. Her father is a retired director and one of the founders of Filmalaya Studios while her mother was a famous playback singer. Also she has a brother named Raja Mukherjee who is a film producer, now turned director. She comes from a film-oriented family of Bengali origin as her maternal aunt named Debashree Roy is a national award-winning Bengali film actress and her cousin named Kajol is a popular Bollywood actress. She attended Maneckji Cooper High School in Juhu, Mumbai and later attended Mithibai College in Mumbai to become a graduate. She is a trained Odissi dancer though she began learning the dance when she was in the tenth grade.

Rani Mukherjee started her acting career as a child artist in Bengali Cinema with the movie ‘Biyer Phool’ in 1992. Talking of her acting career as an adult, she made her acting debut in the year 1996 with the movie ‘Raja Ki Aayegi Baraat‘. She played as Mala, who suffered as a rape victim but later struggled successfully to get justice and the rapist as her husband. She starred opposite another new comer named Raj. Despite of her fine acting, the movie fail to do well at the box office and therefore she decided to get back to the college to complete her education. Two years later in 1998, she made a come back in the industry with the movie ‘Ghulam‘ and this time she starred opposite superstar, Aamir Khan. The movie was a superhit as well as she was shot to fame with this movie. A song of the same movie titled “Aati Kya Khandala” made her popular among the masses and also she earned the nickname of Khandala Girl.

Again she gave a short but blistering performance in the superhit movie ‘Kuch Kuch Hota Hai‘ in the same year. In this movie she co-starred with Shahrukh Khan and Kajol. The movie earned her first Filmfare Award in the Best Supporting Actress category. But later, her career started to fall and she still didn’t succeed to establish her status in the industry at that point of time. Later she starred in other movies such as Chori Chori Chupke Chupke (2001), Bas Itna Sa Khwaab Hai (2001), Nayak (2001), Saathiya (2002), Chalte Chalte (2003), LOC Kargil (2003), Veer-Zaara (2004), Black (2005), Kabhi Alvida Naa Kehna (2006), Laaga Chunari Mein Daag (2007), Thoda Pyaar Thoda Magic (2008) etc. Her recent movie was ‘Dil Bole Hadippa!’ which was released in 2009.
