A famous Hindi Cinema actress known as Rati Agnihotri was born on December 10th, 1960 at Mumbai in Maharashtra. She was born to a conservative Punjabi family. Also she has starred in several other languages films such as Urdu, Tamil, Telugu and Kannada. Though she comes from a traditional family, she was allowed to model at the age of ten years. Later in her teenage, her father re-located to Madras (Chennai) due to his job. There she attended Good Shepherd’s Convent School to complete her studies and also there she acted in a school play. There in the audience, a very famous Tamil film director named Bharathiraja was also present who was searching for a heroine to star in his new film. Later he met with her father who agreed reluctantly. Later she starred in ‘Pudhiya Varpukal’. She is married with Anil Virwani on February 9th, 1985 who is a businessman and architect. The couple has a son named Tanuj Virmani. She also has a sister named Anita Agnihotri.

Rati Agnihotri started her film career as an actress in the year 1979 with a Tamil film titled ‘Pudhiya Varpukal’. She starred opposite Bhagyaraj who was also a newcomer. Also he had coached her lines by teaching her Tamil. She was shot to fame with that film and also the movie was a blockbuster. She became a sensation overnight and again got a chance to star in the movie ‘Niram Marada Pookkal’ in the same year which was directed by Bharathiraja. Later she started to work with the top stars such as Kamal Hassan and Rajinikanth. She entered in the Hindi Cinema in the year 1981 with the movie ‘Ek Duje Ke Liye‘ which was the remake of her blockbuster film in Tamil titled ‘Marocharithra’ in 1979. The movie was about two passionate lovers and she played as Sapna. The movie became a hit and also top grossing film of the year.

Later she appeared in some movies such as Shaukeen (1982), Farz Aur Kanoon (1982), Coolie (1983), Tawaif (1985), Aap Ke Saath (1986) etc. The movie ‘Tawaif‘ earned her the nomination as Best Actress though she has also received her first nomination as Best Actress for the movie ‘Ek Duje Ke liye’. She has worked with superstar Amitabh Bachchan in starting of her career in the Bollywood. Later she got married and then she got herself away from the industry. At that time, she was on the top of her career. Her successful pair with another superstar, Mithun Chakraborty gave several hits to the industry. She made a come back in 2001, after sixteen long years of saying no to films. She played as Kajol’s glamorous mother in ‘Kuch Khatti Kuch Meethi’. In the same year, she appeared in ‘Yaadein‘ and ‘Dev’ in 2004. She has recently appeared in ‘Luck’ in 2009.
