Songs of Sanjeev Kumar


A very prominent and talented hindi cinema actor named Sanjeev Kumar was born on July 9th, 1938 at Surat in Gujrat. His real name was Harihar Jariwala and was born in a Gujrati family who lived in Bombay at that time. He was very fond of acting through his childhood which took him to the bollywood. He eventually became a star there due to his exceptional ability of acting which looked like real. He did not marry and remained bachelor for all his life. He loved Actress Hema Malini and even put a marriage proposal to her but she refused. After that he decided to remain bachelor. Also he made actress Jaya Bhaduri his sister in real life and after that didn’t pair opposite to her in movies. Talking to his entry in the movie world, he made his debut in 1960 with the movie titled ‘Hum Hindustani‘ in which he played as a police inspector. The movie was a superhit but he was not recognised by anybody.

Later in the year 1965, he got his first movie as a lead role titled ‘Nishan’ which became a hit. Three years later in 1968, he got a chance to perform opposite the famous actor Dilip Kumar in the movie ‘Sangharsh‘. But he was shot to fame after two years with his miracleous performance in the movie ‘Khilona‘ in 1970. Then starts his golden period in which he acted in the hits Seeta Aur Geeta (1972) and Manchali (1973). Soon he started working with famous director Gulzar with which he later did nine movies including Aandhi (1975), Mausam (1975), Angoor (1981) and Namkeen (1982). It is said that these are some of the best films that he did. What made him apart from other actors was his ability to take unconventional roles that challenged him as an actor. As a result he played as Mirza in Satyajit Ray’s classic ‘Shatranj Ke Khiladi’ (1977) who was a chess-obsessed Lucknowi.

No one can forget his role of ‘Thakur Sahab’ in the blockbuster movie ‘Sholay‘ in 1975. That was a very difficult role but he made looks like easy. Later in 1978, another blockbuster movie ‘Trishul’ bring him success and he was remembered always for these two movies. In 1980s he started to play supporting roles instead of lead roles. But at the age of forty seven, he died on November 6th, 1985 of a heart ailment. It is said actress Sulakshana Pandit wanted to marry him but he rejected her marriage proposal. After his death, ten of his movies were released. His last movie released was ‘Professor Ki Padosan’ in 1993. Sanjeev Kumar had played nine-role epic performance in ‘Naya Din Nayi Raat’ (1974) and that enhanced his status and reputation as an actor.
