Songs of Sapna Awasthi


A very famous Bollywood playback singer named Sapna Awasthi is well known for her raunchy songs. She has made her place in the heart of people as a folk singer. She was born to the family of a Sanskrit lecturer in Lucknow University and she has also learnt hindustani classical music from Bhatkhande Sangeet Mahvidyalaya. She is married to Kartik Awasthi and they have their own drama company named the Awadh Theatre Group specialising in opera plays. There she composes and sings the songs and also sometimes acted in some of the plays. She is a great fan of Meena Kumari and Guru Dutt and likes to watch the movies of them. Also she likes melodious songs and favours singers like melody queen Lata Mangeshkar and Noor Jahaan. According to her she always finds honesty and no ego in a person.

She is a talented singer from her childhood and later started her music career in early 1990s where she sang in some music albums. She made her debut in the year 1995 as a playback singer in the movie ‘Dushmani’ where she sang the song “Banno Teri Ankhiyaan“. The song was a superhit which attracted many music directors towards her and soon she started to get many proposals for singing. But her interest was more in live performances rather recording a song. Not only in Hindi, she can sing in different languages like Telegu, Assamees, Bhojpur, Rajesthani, Nepali and Bengali. Sapna has came out with a new album ‘Kahin Diya Jale Kahin Jiya’ in which she has rendered Pakistani Folk type of songs. Also in 1994, she has sung for the movie ‘Krantiveer‘ in which she sang “Jai Ambe Jagdambe Ma” and the song was directed by Anand Milind.

Also she gave her voice in the movie ‘Anjaam‘ in 1994 where she sang “Pratighaat Ki Jwala Jale”. The music director of the song was duo Anand-Milnd again. But she was not considered as a playback singer in 1994 as she had not given her voice to any female. She was considered after her song “Banno Teri Ankhiyan”. From then on she has done playback singing in several successful movies such as Zamaana Deewana (1995), Raja Hindustani (1996), Darmiyan (1997), Dil Se.. (1998), Jaanwar (1999), Ghaath (2000), Company (2002), Hum Tumhare Hain Sanam (2002), Dil Ka Rishta (2003) and Zameer (2005). One of her very famous song “Pardesi Pardesi Jana Nahi” from ‘Raja Hindustani’ created sensation nationwide. Also in the year 2002, she sang in the song “Khallas” from ‘Company’ which was picturised on Isha Koppikar. Another hit song “Chaiyan Chaiyan” is noted on her list.
