One of the most prominent and famous actor in the Bollywood industry, Shammi Kapoor was born on October 21st, 1931 at Bombay in Maharashtra. His birth name is Shamsher Raj Kapoor and he was born to the family of great Prithviraj Kapoor who was a successful film and theatre actor. He had two brothers named Raj Kapoor who was also a legend of Hindi Cinema and Shashi Kapoor who was a superhit actor of his time like his father. He married with Geeta Bali who was the famous actress and the couple has two children. His wife died in 1966 due to small pox. Later in 1969, he married with his second wife named Neela Devi. His career ended as a leading man in the decade of seventies as he significantly gained weight. Shammi Kapoor was also one of the foremost internet users in India.

Shammi Kapoor started his career with some serious roles in the movies. But in 1957, the movie titled ‘Tumsa Nahin Dekha‘, created his image of a light hearted playboy. He appeared alonhwith Ameeta in the movie. Two years later in 1959, he once again played the same character of a light herated playboy in the superhit movie ‘Dil Deke Dekho‘ in which he apperaed opposite Asha Parekh. But his image got cemented two years later in 1961 when he appeared in the blockbuster movie ‘Junglee‘ opposite Saira Banoo. He particularly chose Mohammed Rafi as his playback voice and Rafi was also his friend. Also the very famous song “Yahoo Yahoo Chahe Koi Mujhe” was picturised on him in that movie. In his early career, he starred with some established actresses like Madhubala. According to him, Sharmila Tagore, Rajshree, and Asha Parekh were easy to work with.

After giving a staggering performance in ‘Bluff Master‘ in 1964 he once again in 1966, gave his electrifying performance in the superhit murder mystry, ‘Teesri Manzil‘. He was shot to fame in 1968 with the movie ‘Brahmchari’ in which he gave his best. The movie earned him Filmfare Best Actor Award in 1968. Before this award, he was also nominated as Best Actor for ‘Professor’ in 1962. But in the starting of 1970s, his career was stopped due to his over weight. The movie ‘Andaz‘ was his last hit as a lead hero in 1971. Later he turned into a successful supporting actor in the 70’s decade. Apart from his acting career, he also has directed a movie titled ‘Manoranjan’ in 1974. But the movie was not successful. He continued to play supporting roles in 1980s and 1990s and won a Filmfare Best Supporting Actor Award for his performance in Vidhaata in 1982. Later he rarely appeared on the screen in late 1990s and early 2000s. He was awarded Filmfare Lifetime Achievement Award in 1995.
