Simi Garewal is a famous Bollywood actress who was born on October 17th, 1947 at Ludhiana in Punjab. She was born to the family of Garewal Jat-Sikh family and her father was a brigadier in the army. She grew up in England and consequently had an English accent. Later she married with O.P. Bahl but seperated soon. Later she came back to India where she started to act in films as an actress. During that time, she has worked with some of the very famous film directors such as Raj Kapoor and Satyajit Ray in 1960s and 1970s. Also she was very popular for giving some bold and explicit scenes in the movies which was uncommon during that era. Also she has won several awards for her talented roles in the movies. Simi Garewal first came in front of the camera in the year 1962 with the movie ‘Tarzan Goes to India’. The movie was an English language movie.

Simi played as Princess Kamara in the movie alongwith her co-actor, Feroz Khan. After that she came back to India to become an actress. But she had a problem of not knowing the Hindi language, for which she had to learn Hindi first. Her journey in the Bollywood industry started in early 1960s and later in 1970s, she worked with legendary Raj Kapoor in the movie ‘Mera Naam Joker‘ in 1970. Also she worked with Raj Khosla in Do Badan, Satyajit Ray in Aranyer Din Ratri and Mrinal Sen in Padatik. She starred in ‘Siddhartha’, the movie based on the novel by Herman Hesse. Her nude scene in the movie created some controversy in India. Later in the year 1976, she starred in in the popular film Kabhi Kabhie (1976), made by her brother-in-law Yash Chopra, and had a starring role in Chalte Chalte (1976).

But her performance as a vamp in the movie ‘Karz‘ in 1980 showed her real talent. She played alongwith Rishi Kapoor, Pran and Tina Minim. During the decade of 1980, she turned to writing and direction. Simi had also formed her own production company which was named as Siga Arts International. In 1984, she made a documentary for Channel 4 in the UK called Living Legend Raj Kapoor. Apart from his direction and production, she has also produced a movie titled ‘Rukhsat’ in 1988 and also produced television commercials. In the year 1966, she had won Filmfare Best Supporting Actress Award for her role in Do Badan and two years later in 1968, she won Filmfare Best Supporting Actress Award for her role in Saathi. Also she was nominated as Best Supporting Actress for her role in Karz in 1980.
