Sunny Deol was born as Ajay Singh on October 19, 1956 in New Delhi, India. His father is veteran actor Dharmendra and his mother name is Prakash Kaur. He has a younger brother Bobby Deol, who is also an actor by profession. He has two sisters who are settled in California. He has two half sisters, Esha Deol and Ahana Deol from his father’s second marriage to actress Hema Malini. Sunny finished his schooling from Sacred Heart High School, Santacruz in Mumbai. He attended Podar College in Matunga in Mumbai. He always wanted to be an actor being the son of the famous bollywood star. Sunny spent most of his childhood time in his father’s village. He showed a great interest in acting, Dharmendra noticed his potential and sent him to England to study acting. There he joined theatre called the Old Web Theatre in Birmingham, England where he studied acting. He is a National Film Awards winning film actor of Punjab. He married to Pooja Deol and has two sons, Ranveer and Rajveer.
Sunny is mainly known for movies of action genre. He started his debut carrier in his home production movie Betaab in 1983. The movie was a superhit and after this he became a superstar. Sunny Deol was intially considerd as the another puny star son. Critics believed that he wouldn’t measure up to the standards of his illustrious father but Sunny proved that critics are no one to judge about the ability of any actor. After sometime Sunny Deol was casted for action film Arjun. He played the role of a jobless hungry youth who is forced to become a gangster with guns and knives by circumstances. This role established his image as the action hero of Bollywood. After this he did a lot of movies but unfortunately no one became hit. Then he again came up with the movie Ghayal in 1990 and the movie was first biggest breakthrough which settled him as a top class action hero. Sunny Deol delivered huge hits through the nineties in the form of Narsimha in 1991, Lootere in 1993, Damini in 1993, and Darr in 1993. His supporting actor role of a drunken lawyer in Damini in 1993 fetched him all the awards & accolades in Bollywood. In the mid nineties he delivered five big hits in a row - Jeet in 1996, Ghatak in 1996, Ajay in 1996, Ziddi in 1997 & Border in 1997. As a director Sunny deol has not been so successful so far. Sunny Deol made his directorial debut with Dillagi in 1998 starring himself, younger brother Bobby Deol & Urmila Matondkar. The film was a box office disaster.
Then Sunny Deol got the biggest breakthrough of his life Gadar. This movie was a huge success at the box office. Gadar was made with the budget of 18 crores but grossed around 70 crore rupees at the box office, making it one of the highest grossing Hindi movie. This was the biggest blockbuster of the year 2001. Gadar was also loved by international viewers. Recently released Apne was also a success at the box office. The film brought the three Deols together for the first time, however bobby had worked with older brother sunny before in Dillagi and Shaheed. In 1991 he got Filmfare Best Actor Award for Ghayal. In 1994 he got Filmfare Best Supporting Actor Award for Damini. In 2001 he got Zee Cine Special Award for Outstanding Performance- Male for Gadar. In 2002 he got two awards- Best Actor for Gadar and Best Actor Award for Gadar by the Sansui Viewers’ Choice Movie Awards.
