A very famous and prominent Bollywood actress, Urmila Matondkar was born on February 4, 1974 at Mumbai in Maharashtra. She made her acting career debut as a child artist in the year 1980. She acted in the movie ‘Kalyug‘ as Parikshit. Two years later in 1983, she once again appeared in the movie ‘Masoom’ as Pinky Malhotra. Her role in this movie gave her a new identity in the industry. Later her entry in the movies as an adult was in the film ‘Bade Ghar ki Beti’ in 1989. She was critically acclaimed by the critics. Two years later she once again appeared in another hit movie titled ‘Narasimha‘ in 1991. She appeared alongside Sunny Deol and Om Puri. Later she made her appearance in the movie ‘Chamatkar‘ which was one of the highest grossing hit of that year.

In her later career, she went on to frequently collaborate with film director Ram Gopal Verma. She first worked with him in his movie ‘Antham’ which is in Telugu language. Later that movie was also dubbed in hindi with the title ‘Drohi’ in 1992. She became famous in the year 1995 with the movie ‘Rangeela’ which established her as a versatile actress. She received her first Filmfare Best Actress Award nomination for her performance in the film. Later she starred in several movies under the banner of RGV such as Daud (1997), Satya (1999), Kaun (1999), Mast (2000), Jungle (2000), Pyaar Tune Kya Kiya (2001), Bhoot (2003) and Ek Hasina Thi (2004). The year 1997 brought her a mixture of success as well as failure with some movies such as ‘Judaai’ which was proved to be a hit. But her next two movies, ‘Daud’ and ‘Aflatoon’ went flop.

Next year in 1998, she came up with another critically acclaimed movie ‘Satya’. The movie received her another Filmfare nomination. Also in 1999, she starred in commerecially hit movie ‘Kaun’ and saw further success with Jaanam Samjha Karo, Hum Tum Pe Marte Hain and Khoobsurat, all moderate successes at the box office. She played as an obsessive lover in the movie Pyaar Tune Kya Kiya in 2001 and received various Best Villain nominations for her performance. Later in her career she started to play some kind of mature roles such as in the movie ‘Pinjar’ in 2003 and played the title role in a drama movie ‘Tehzeeb’. But she was mainly noted for her role in the horror movie ‘Bhoot’. Her performance was much appreciated by critics and audiences and she won her first Filmfare Award under the Best Performer category. She recently appeared in ‘Karzzzz‘ which was a remake of 1980 movie titled ‘Karz‘.
