Veer-Zaara is a romantic movie directed by Yash Chopra. The movie is an unfortunate love story of an Indian Air Force Officer, Veer Pratap Singh whose role is played by Shahrukh Khan and a Pakistani woman, Zaara Hayaat Khan, played by Preity Zinta. The other actors who played important roles in ethe movie are Rani Mukherjee, Kirron Kher, Divya Dutta, Hema Malini, Amitabh Bachchan and Anupam Kher. The movie was released in theaters on November 12, 2004 and the movie grossed Rs.170 million in its first week of release. The movie earned Rs.750 million worldwide and became the top grossing film of the year at both the national and international box office. The music of the movie was based on the old composition of the late Madan Mohan and the lyrics were written by Javed Akhtar. The famous singer Lata Mangeshkar sang most of the songs. The other singers who rendered the songs of this movie are Jagjit Singh, Udit Narayan, Sonu Nigam, Gurdas Mann, Roop Kumar Rathod, Ahmed and Mohammad Hussain. The movie won several major awards in the Indian film award ceremonies including The National Film Award and the Best Movie Award at the annual Film Fare Awards.

In the plot of the film, Zaara Hayaat Khan ( Preity Zinta ) make a visit to India in order to fulfill the final wish of her Bebe and the wish was that she wants Zaara to take her ashes to India, to holy Sikh city of Kritipur, and scatter them in the river. Upon reaching India , Zaara’s bus meets with an accident and an Indian Force Officer Veer Pratap Singh ( Shahrukh Khan ) comes to her rescue. Zaara completes Bebe’s wish with the help of Veer and he then take her to his hometown during Lohdi festival. There both of them falls in love. Veer is just waiting for right time to tell her. When it is revealed that Zaara is engaged to another man, Raza ( Manoj Bajpai ), than Veer decides to confesses his love. Zaara board the train that will take her to Pakistan and they watched each other as if they will not be going to meet again. On reaching Pakistan Zaara realizes that she is also in love with Veer. Zaara’s friend Shabbo calls Veer to tell him about Zaara’s wish. Veert quits Air Force and goes to Pakistan to bring her back to India. Coming across about them Zara’s Mother, Mariam Hayaat Khan, begs him to leave Zaara as her Father, Jahangir Hayaat Khan has gone ill after hearing this news. He fears that his reputation will be ruined. Veer respects her request and leaves for India. But Raza, who was enraged by the shame which Zaara has brought upon him, frames Veer and wrongly imposed the charge of being an Indian Spy Rajesh Rathore.

The story moves forward by 22 years. Veer meets Saamiya Siddiqui ( Rani Mukherjee ), who is a Pakistani Lawyer and her mission of life is to pave the path for women’s empowerment in Pakistan. To dissuade a female lawyer from being successful, she is given the case of Veer. Many lawyer viewed this case as an impossible task as the man has not spoken for last 22 years. Veer opens up to Saamiya and tells her that she can do anything for fighting his case except mention much less subpoena, Zaara’s family. After a number of attempts she fails to prove Veer innocence. Then she goes to Veer’s village to gather evidence for proving Veer’s real identity. There she meets Zaara and convinces her to go back to Pakistan with her and finally tell the truth about Veer’s identity. The judge release Veer from prison and apologizes on behalf of of the whole country. After Veer is finally released, he and Zaara return to India together, at last reunited.
