Vinod Khanna is one of the famous bollywood actors and he was born on October 6th, 1946 at Peshawar, North-West Frontier Province, British India which is now in Pakistan. Born in a joint family to KC Khanna and Kamla Khanna, he is one of the five children in the family. His father was a businessman who dealt in textiles, dyes and chemicals. In his earlier days of childhood, he attended Queen Mary’s School till class II and then shifted to St Xavier’s High School and did his graduation from Sydenham College. Later he married Geetanjali and became father of two sons named Rahul Khanna and Akshaye Khanna. Both of his sons are well known bollywood actors. When his career was going on top, he became a disciple of Osho and in 1980, he moved to Rajneeshpuram, Osho’s commune in the United States. There he stayed for four years and his absence from his family ended in divorse with his wife.

Later in 1990, he once again married with his second wife named Kavita and also has a son and a daughter named Shraddha from her. In 1968, he entered in the bollywood industry with the film ‘Man Ka Meet’ as a villain. His performance was noticed by everyone and two years later in early 1970s he got some supporting and negative roles in superhit movies such as Purab Aur Paschim (1970), Sachaa Jhutha (1970) and Mera Gaon Mera Desh (1971). He was shot to the fame with the movie Mere Apne in 1971 and got another big break in 1973 film Achanak. His character of army officer facing death row in the movie was critically acclaimed. But his golden period comes in late 1970s where he got major success movies such as Parvarish (1977), Amar Akbar Anthony (1977), Khoon Pasina (1977) and Muqaddar Ka Sikander (1978). The movie Amar Akbar Anthony became a superhit which stands him in the row of superstars.

He has worked with many actors of bollywood in several films. In early 1980, he starred in ‘The Burning Train‘ and ‘Qurbani‘ which also proved to be superhit. By the time he became the most successful actor in the industry competing with Amitabh Bachchan. But he left the industry in 1979 for eight years as he became a follower of the spiritual teacher Osho. He returns to the industry in nid 1980s where he acted in Dayavan (1988), Chandni (1989), Kshatriya (1993) Eena Meena Deeka (1994) and Ekka Raja Rani (1994). Then he introduces his son Akshaye Khanna in the movie ‘Himalay Putra’ in 1997 in which he also starred. He last appeared in the movie Risk in 2007. He also has a political career which he started in 1997. He has joined BJP and won re-election from Gurdaspur in 2004. He has got Filmfare Best Supporting Actor Award for Haath Ki Safai in 1974 and till 1979, he was nominated for Best actor and Supporting Actor. In 1999, he got Filmfare Lifetime Achievement Award.
